Are any of the firefox extensions necessary..?

    Why do we use them.
    Same principle applies to noscript.

I use it and i have seen it stop malicious redirects and code injections.

NO!, it just breaks the web anyhow, nothing will run without being OK'd first, that is more of a hassle than anything, I understand the intent of the program
but I think their are better ways to handle it "hardening your system" I understand that this outlook would not work for the average person

My system is hardened to the point that most malware will not run on it "most attack points" have been removed from the code in Windows "but as I said most"

If I get zapped then I just re-image, "Never have been zapped since building this version of windows, maybe just luckilyo_O

Ever since I started using NoScript (four years ago), nothing that looks or acts like malware has attempted to run in my computers. And I mean nothing. I credit NoScript for that since I don't run antiviruses, firewalls, hips or anything like that. NoScript:cool:

    Even Windows firewall? :p

Well, I don't use NoScript, not even using Firefox. But the Chrome's script blocker: ScriptSafe is pretty useful for me. It makes my AV's job a lot easier. Not saying that everyone should use a script blocker, but if you are comfortable with it, then using one will reduce the risk of web browser based exploits quite a lot, IMO.

EDIT: Just to add some. :D Script blocking is probably quite annoying at first. But those websites which keep spamming your screen with popups are far more annoying. I have been using ScriptSafe for quite some time and it gets comfortable in the long run. Most websites that I visit don't really need to be allowed anyway. Unless you really love PC MAG.

    right you are.

i installed Ghostery on the kiosk machine at work so the RAM doesn't redline from all the junks.
people don't even know it's there.
i would not want to try NoScript there but i use it at home on my machine. :thumb:

Usually when I see words like "need", or "necessary", I take things very literally and so the answer is always "NO". Because I could definitely live without it if need be.

But in this case, I don't have much internet security because I have NoScript in place. If not for NoScript I would run a real-time AV. So in order for me to maintain the setup I've now grown to love. To enjoy this nice light, responsive, quiet box... yes, it's necessary.

I unistalled it(NoScript) for few weeks and installed ghostery. For some reason I felt "naked" without it(NoScript) and the browser seem a tad slower with ghostery. So...I unistalled ghostery and reinstalled NoScript and have to admit Palemoon Sandboxed is running a lot snappier now with it. Also installed DoNotTrackMe to see how that works, so far so good.:thumb:

I had the same feeling about Ghostery. It's pretty heavy on the system.

I just installed NoScript and find it very light. Maybe it will stay in my arsenal.

i found that it slows down the loading of pages.

NoScript is faster in that regard but i would not recommend it to Joe/Jane Average.
i have seen a very few sites where NoScript had to be disabled totally in the Add-ons section.
    but that's rare.

otherwise, i just love the way NS cuts down on the bandwidth sucking sludge.

It does cut down on the junk. But there are compatibility problems, especially on websites that require you to put in personal and secure information. Many times simply clicking once "allow all of this page" doesn't work and I need to do it 2 times or more depending what other pages are loaded. And then the secure information is forgotten, page reloaded, etc... A huge headache.

Since I've started using Sandboxie...I stop using NoScript. That's what my intuition had told me. :D

I'm using TBB, so enabling noScripts is essential for my security.

An update. I'm using uBlock Origin now with both Firefox and Palemoon. Have since ditched ghostery, donottrackme etc.. But I'm still using noScript in "default allow mode" for the Clickjacking protection and Anti-XSS protection along with uBlock Origin. Maybe I don't really need noScript with firefox as I'm using Dynamic filtering in uBlock Origin however, Palemoon is a different story because I can only use the "Static filtering" mode in uBlock origin, so noScript for extra protection is a must for me in Palemoon.

Edit: Will be able to use Dynamic filtering in uBlock in Palemoon now since uBlcock icon is now visible. Re post #1072 https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/ublock-a-lean-and-fast-blocker.365273/page-43#post-2485919 Therefore Palemoon will be setup like firefox, i.e. noScript will be reverted to "default mode"

You're welcome. I knew where it was but I still couldn't easily find it. The site isn't optimally organized -- not complaining though. I'd feel naked without NoScript.

I used to use noscript but became to hate it after years of usage. The internet just feels broken with it. Sites are not workings, videos not loading. Sure you can use white list but it just doesn't feel the same. Now Im using ublock script blocker.

Are you not in exactly the same predicament with ublock that you were with noscript..?

I mean websites breaking, videos not loading etc.
I find it bizarre to be critical of noscript and yet be in praise of ublock but the script blocking functionality would be the same.....
Just trying to find some meaningful rationale in your statement...

I think this is a classic dilemma. Like most people, I feel a bit vulnerable in Firefox without NS, yet in Windows my preferred browser is Maxthon with no extra extensions. Although Firefox is my default browser on Linux. NS can be infuriating at times, but it is a good first line of defence. I just can't ditch it yet! I also use uBlock on Chrome/Chromium.
