These are hidden system folders and are already present in the partition on your external HD. They are created when the partition is created. I prefer they aren't copied, especially if copying from the root.

So if I manually copy everything from the data partition i.e Control + C & paste into external HD, do those too gets copied?

Any experience with dupeGuru to find duplicate files?

I tried FreeFileSync now i.e just a quick test like previous.
    I find it good too.
To sync, there are 4 options, Two-Way, Mirror, Update & Custom
From test I find "Mirror" is what I am looking for.

To compare files, 2 options, File Time/Size & File Content
I tested both with Mirror sync option & both works good.
Which is better to compare files File Time/Size or File Content?

    Any experience with FreeFileSync?

No, because they haven't been selected.

I haven't tried the other apps you mentioned.

You are going to copy from internal hd to other internal hd as mentioned in one of your post.
Do try FreeFileSync, guess you will like it. You can install it portable too.
I quick tested FastCopy & FreeFileSync & find both good but comparatively FFS better.
Now will quick test bvckup2 & see.

    Alex,

Results for the internal HD partition to internal HD partition copy.

    Robocopy 100 minutes

    FastCopy 101 minutes

    Bvckup 2 118 minutes

Apart from Firefox, no other apps were running. The tests were done on different days.

I quick tested Bvckup 2 beta & like it.
I am going to use manual & not realtime so would prefer portable.
Does the paid version provides portable install?

I like all the 3, FastCopy, FreeFileSync & Bvckup 2
FC & FFS are portable too.

And Brian K gave speed test for FC & B2.
Only FFS speed test is missing.
Then would be better to decide.

At this point, it does not. The settings and the executable are easy to move around but the licensing is not set up for any kind of portable us.

Bvckup 2 is the fastest to do a "Sync" backup when a text file is added to the Source folder. Less than 1 second. That is the most important time as copying the partition is a once only event.

FastCopy was 10 seconds and Robocopy was 3 minutes.

Brian, how big was that single TEXT file... and were FC and RC doing whatever they call "real time" syncing or some sort of scheduled sync? Those sync times seem awfully slow.

    TRF,

It was a 1 kb text file. Bvckup 2 is fast in this situation. I was running FastCopy and Robocopy manually from command lines and the results were repeatable. Robocopy has to scan all files (each time) before it "syncs".

After a computer restart the first time "sync" times were longer...

    FastCopy 110 seconds

    Bvckup 2 40 seconds

    TheRollbackFrog,

I download Bvckup 2 Beta from official site & it mention "Last beta has been feature-frozen since April 2014 and it receives only critical fixes, when and if they surface".
Thats good they provide critical fixes. And the beta is kind of free version.

I am going to install the release version trial.
    What happens on trial ends?
Does it stops working i.e features are disabled or downgrades to beta?

I believe it goes all MANUAL but that's from a poor memory. If it's important, I'll ask Alex (the Dev)

I am running latest Comodo Internet Security stable version.
I guess you guys know this version adds its ADS to files.
Will this create any probs with Bvckup 2, FastCopy & FreeFileSync?

Modified files are detected by comparing (created, modified, file-size) triplets between the copies.
In-file changes are detected using block hashes - http://www.bvckup.com/support/forums/topic_show.pl?tid=62

The author's response is HERE. The Author (angstrom) now appears to be following this thread so if you have any more detailed questions, I'm sure he'll be able to help. If not, I'll poke him :D

    Thanxx for the info.

So if I create backups with released version & after trial ends I downgrade to beta, will the beta have probs continuing/updating backups?

I'm guessing (Angstrom, help me here!)... there's been a lot of changes/additions to the production version that include new SETTINGS, etc. There's no way the BETA could possibly understand those settings,

You can downgrade, I don't see a problem with it. Beta will just ignore all the new settings.

I can confirm that the trial does end. I can no longer use the program. What are my options at this point?

Buy a license or DOWNLOAD the final BETA (Free) at the bottom of the home page. I've been using the final BETA on lots of system for quite a while...

Do you know if I can install the BETA over top or if I need to un-install the disabled version first?

Alex, I would try and install over the top... Alex designed all his stuff to be able to do that.
