    New beta for RT-AC87U: 3.0.0.4_378_5134
Not tried it yet, but seems that ASUS got serious into providing a solid firmware for this great hardware.

Not sure why UPNP isn't opening port for kMule. It just refuses to even though UPNP is enabled. Anyone else having such problems with this router? It used to work fine few months ago...

ASUS RT-AC87U WPA2 key cracked in 2 seconds

Heads up on this serious vulnerability of ASUS RT-AC87U and possibly other ASUS models
    PoC video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btut9GgOlLs&feature=youtu.be

WPS is turned ON by default on ASUS routers and sends always the same PIN 12345670. WPS will turn back on (5 Ghz) at each reboot even if from the GUI it will appear OFF. Latest firmware build 5134 is vulnerable.

Workaround: Turn OFF WPS. And at each reboot of the router toggle ON,OFF the WPS. Hide the SSID also works but with all drawbacks of an hided connection (other users and routers not seeing you and occupying the same band).

    More discussion here:

Beta firmware claiming to fix the issue here:

I've noticed that having AiProtection features enabled, it makes connection crawl like a snail when using eMule for longer periods of time (2+ days for example). Now I have it disabled and the connection is perfectly responsive. Quite annoying...

A pity as AiProtection is a great added value in this router. I don't have any P2P running so cannot comment on your issue but here no issue with AiProtection or Adaptive QoS (Running the latest beta firmware build 5587).

QoS is ok and doesn't bog down the line, but AiProtection has to be the culprit. Maybe I can test individual components of it, though I'd prefer to have them ALL enabled.

ASUS has just released a brand new BETA firmware for this router with quite extensive list of changes, out of which a lot of them are security related...

I think I'll wait a bit for final release though, but anyone who wants it now, here it is.

Yeap, running it since some days. It works fine but with few bugs (e.g. some network tools don't work anymore, cannot drag and drop priorities to devices in QoS, WPS on 5GhZ does not stay off after reboot). The last bug is there since I remember running this router.

The latest release is working well here. Nice new features and options! :thumb:
There are reports of battery drain on some android devices on the 5Ghz band and ASUS is waiting for a new SDK from the QTN producers.
Turning ON beamforming (wifi professional settings) seems to mitigate the effect in some cases.

Does DPI engine in Trend Micro have to use signature data base? I wonder how large should TM be to contain database of malware? If it is way too large, then would DPI engine be inside the router or does the router do sth like VPN to TM server?
