I would have thought there would or will be a Release Preview of 10 before it comes out, which usually is good for several months after release of the OS. But maybe not this time, I don't know....

He may be referring to RTM, which is when they get the OS and can start producing systems with it installed. I don't think we'll actually get to use it until a few months after that.

Although at this point they can expect to sell (and/or give away?) a lot of copies digitally, so it may be easier to launch earlier than in the past. Maybe the retail discs can come at a later date.

I just upgraded to 10049, that includes Project Spartan. I'm giving it a whirl. Its currently missing a few features, history, the new make a web note and downloads are not available yet.

I hate this thing more with each update... and since the claims are that it is going to be released in the next 90 days, I don't have much hope for it getting any better.

What about it do you actually hate more? The only thing I can't stand is the combined local and internet search bar. Hopefully there will be a third party addon for local search if MS doesn't revert to a simple "search programs and files" like the Windows 7 Start Menu search. I wish they would unify the settings again in Control Panel, but I'll learn to live with it if they don't.

    It's called Classic Shell.

Ah, Classic Shell! I had heard it was blocked, but now I see that the latest version works fine; definitely solves the problem.

Yes, I hate the search. If I want a local program I don't want to wait for Bing headlines to load. This build has new color themes that only apply to the taskbar and start menu. The window borders can be any color you like, as long as that color is gray.

According to winaero.com, this gray window border change has to do with the change away from the Aero engine.

Windows Vista/7 were a visual feast compared to XP.
This greyish and solid ambiance is not an evolution, it's an imposition of bad taste.

Windows 95 had more options. Windows 7 will be harder to get people off of than XP. I'm tempted to go back to it.

I won't change my Win 7 box until MS stop supporting it completely.

I just have a feeling I won't be liking it. BTW, for the ones who can provide feedback to the Win 10 developers, did y'all ask for a way to turn off the "Focus Rectangle"? It's one of the stupidest and most ugliest "features" ever. So perhaps someone can help me to get rid of it.

You might be surprised. I wouldn't have touched WIn 8,8.1 with a 10foot poll, but I like Windows 10TP for the most part.

I am actually liking this more than some of the previous builds. It still needs work. If I search for weather, it brings up the weather app. If I search for calculator, it says no results, even though there is a calculator in the start menu which I have to look for and click.

Is this being pushed out via the internal updater (Fast Ring) or is it only available via torrent, etc?

It should be pushed out later today during BUILD. The ESDs were actually leaking from Windows Update servers and converting to ISO successfully. It is now referred to as "Insider Preview" instead of "Technical Preview" as per the desktop watermark and other areas within the build. It's got the Aero blur back as well.
