Hi @J_L Thank you for the report.

Can you please describe what you did before you got this error? I'll try to re-produce it. You can send a PM too with additional information. :)

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Kardo

Sorry to come back you again but this shorcut on the windows startup folder, doesn't fix this issue. It always asked me about the admin rights

    Hi @Ashanta , no problem. ;)
Is it correct that Crystal Security now launch at startup successfully thanks to shortcut (you placed in Startup folder manually)?
Actually it is normal behavior. Please check your Settings. If Start as Admin is enabled then it will ask for Admin privileges. Please note that Admin privileges is also required for some other features too (e.g. Stealth mode). I am not sure but maybe you can prevent UAC prompt with Task scheduler (you can create new task to start Crystal Security at Windows startup).

    Regards,
    Kardo

Not sure, just randomly appeared. I haven't had the error yet since then. Sorry for late reply, was at church trip.

    Hi Kardo @ Wilders

Just started using Crystal Security, Beta version (Latest). Not an expert. So far so good, BUT the pop ups are just short of woeful on information. I downloaded Bork Tuesdays April 14th 2015 Win 7 updates and the pop ups were going like the clappers. Every one of them was unknown. Is Microsoft not trusted?

    Otherwise, fine

    Terry

    Hi Terry,

Thank you for the feedback and information. :)

I agree with you. I'll try to make notifications more informative so it should be easier for the user to understand each detection.

One possible solution to decrease notifications is to enable Trust digitally signed applications in Settings. When file is signed (e.g. by Microsoft) then it will be trusted automatically and without notification. Please note that this setting (when enabled) may also decrease overall detection (e.g. digitally signed malware will be trusted in this case).

PS. I just replied to your email. Please take a look. ;)

Thanks for the feedback. :) @J_L

    Regards,
    Kardo

My experience with the latest version also looks good. As always I got a few suggestions to make :)

1- When Trust digitally signed applications is enabled run the signed file against VT, trust the file automatically only if it is NOT unsafe (i.e. auto allow on safe and unknown verdict, if VT haven't received the file yet don't offer to upload it).

2-Automatically rerun the white-listed files in last 30 days through VT to see if any new detections are present.

@phalanaxus Thank you for the feedback and suggestions! :)

I'll make some tests and if it is suitable enough then this method/functionality will be implemented (but it may take some time to avoid critical errors).

Good suggestion! With optional setting or automatic only? :)

    Regards,
    Kardo

Hmm I would perefer an enable disable switch and a drop-down menu for intended time (10 days, 15 days, 30 days, 45 days). Time selection needs to be limited though imo to decrease server load on VT.

  17. Two suggestions

    1. Add an intermediate solution
One possible solution to decrease the risk of auto-allowing signed malware is to specify a list of trusted vendors. Just include a default list of major software and hardware providers. Would be even better when user could add or remove publishers themselves.

    2. Combine existing programming code
    into new functionality
When auto allow signed software is enabled, build up a list of software to be checked at next startup (or when CPU is idle). This way allow signed can be combined with a (delayed) background check at VT.

Hi Kees. Thank you for your suggestions. :thumb:
This feature is in to-do list and will be implemented in the near future. Possibly after 3.5 stable version.
Interesting idea as well. I'll think about it.

I'll try to improve performance in the next build. Also few minor bugs will be fixed. It seems like current BETA version is already quite stable. :)

    Regards,
    Kardo

  19. Yep, it is basically adding an option to existing check up mode and create a deferred checkup list, while auto allowing signed software (a variation of the black/white lists you build up now).

Update went a bit wonky, it would automatically close when I open from tray icon. Re-installed and everything is fine now.
