Backup & Recovery 15 Home's feature list states 'Backup and Restore to or from FTP/sFTP'. I explicitly need this. However when I setup a backup (backup to vd, file based) I don't get the option to select an (s)FTP target. How do I backup/restore over FTP? Cheers, Michael

Hi Moderator, Thanks for coming back on this. Unfortunately sFTP had nothing to do with mapping drives. In fact the whole point of using sFTP is that for security reasons I don't want to use mapped drives. That functions has to be there as it's clearly advertised. I must be doing something wrong. But the option to specify FTP credentials for a target and specify that target as the backup destination is not to be found. I'm stunned.
sFTP, sometimes called secure FTP or SSH is a network protocol. Not sure how that can be used without first mapping your drives. I backup/restore to/from a network drive. On the restore from WinPE it does ask for credentials. I backup from Windows on a mapped drive so credentials are already set. I assume if backed up from WinPE it would ask for credentials when making the backup.
The point is that I need explicitly not to have drives mapped. When the vault is mapped to a drive it's vulnerable to randsomeware (which encrypts files it can find on the file system whether local or on a network drive) and other threads. Can have backups exposed to threats like that. In addition SSH backup will work from literally anywhere provided the ports are open on the network you're on which is virtually everywhere since SSH is needed is used so often. Mapping drives one often can not as the ports required are often closed as they are a security thread. I take my loss I should have tried the SW first. Will stick to Duplicati.

Thank you for your devotion on this. Yes I found how to perform an sftp backup with your hits. A full one only btw. Daily scheduled delta's did not appear to be an option. Not that it mattered since the manual also says that only a full restore can be done. This does not serve my needs. Like: Child #1 comes to me saying dad I overwrote my school project and now it's gone. It must have happened last week. Please bring back the latest proper copy for me?!?! So even if there could be delta backup, like for the non-sftp ones, still I'd be in trouble when trying to perform timely restores for a single file. So really thanks for your efforts. But the sftp option in not implemented transparently. It's not just like any other destination. I choose paragon backup for the really nice looking interface and especially at the few click restore facility. It's there. Just not for sftp which I happen to find required for a save backup as explained earlier. Regular malware should not be able to find my backups though a network mounted hard drive. Also delta's are a must. Both kids have a secure daily backup scheduled that run from anywhere. From school, friends places, wherever. Runs under 10 seconds for a delta. It's just the restore in Duplicate I don't like. It's awful really. But very functional and file based. If delta backups are possible on sftp feel feel to indicate that in a response to possibly help other readers.
