I have a question about motherboard default value speed low limits for chassis fans. If I lower the RPM of both front and top chassis fans to reduce noise The readings on the Motherboard turn red as the low limit for these fans is 600RPM and they're now running at around 590RPM. If I set the low limit to 500RPM in BIOS will this cause any issues ? even if slight ones. I've tried getting them down to 600RPM using SpeedFan but it's a hit & miss program. on first install it reduced speeds but after that it does sod all My Board is ASUS Z97M-PLUS and I cant get SpeedFan to do anything anymore It says Aux1 and 2 are set at 41% and 39% when in BIOS I set them at 43 and 38% If I disable Q-Fan control in BIOS the spin through the roof at over 1000RPM
I am not an expert in hardware, but I think you shouldnt have any problems if you reduce fan speed as long the temperature is low. But doing this, will certainly increase your temperature of all internal parts a lot. I remember I once lowered around 600 rpm, instead of my standard 1100-1600 rpm and within a minute processor went to above 80 degrees from below 50, and that was when my computer was idle. If you are lowering rpm, make absolutely sure your current setup is cool enough under a moderate load. But in my opinion, you shouldnt lower the rpm just to lower the noise, you might want to check the fans are fitted correctly and clean the dust, that should help.
Thanks, I found a Tutorial on SpeedFan, I hadn't set to manual and I was deliberating that before I was distracted, then forgot all about it BIOS is set to defaults and now SpeedFan slows the fans on Windows start up Chassis 1 & 2 set to a min of 30% each and CPU set to a min of 78% Whole system is a cool 29c
as long as your temps are all good its fine. BUT make 100% sure the temps are okay of everything not just the cpu. remember you have hard drives etc in there they can also overheat. imo i MUCH prefer setting fans (where possible) in the bios then using speedfan. i have seen to many cases where speedfan was set and it worked for a while and then for whatever reason it was not regulating them properly or some other reason and things overheated on people. as long as you have checked all your temps well set the fans however you want in the bios.
It sounds like you are asking about the "monitoring" of fan speeds. If so, you can turn fan speed monitoring off if you want and not worry about it. You should still, of course, monitor your temperatures.
