Most users don't use it for the firewall but for the HIPS part. So EIS may not be an option for everyone. That is why we do offer refunds if people don't want to switch.

 

Actually Online Armor gives more control over your system than EIS. HIPS always gives more control.

 

Online Armor RIP Retired to my all time hall of fame list of the greatest security software ever developed. Still nothing gets by it.

 

I preferred OA over other HIPS based firewalls and it served it's purpose well on my system. Started using it back in the days of Tall EMU and then when Emsisoft took over. Even the free version was quite powerful.

 

I have to find something to replace it's leak protection now.

 

Same here! It never bothers me with prompts, and still nothing gets by it. I have looked, and have not found anything to replace it. HIPS that offer similar protection prompt you to death. I think Comodo is really the only other option, and the last time I used it it prompted me to death. I don't know about it's current state. It was also really buggy on my machine.

 

Yes HIPS is good but for installing untrusted application where some trojan virus and some malware is bad.

 

That is true, but OA actually does have a cloud AV. It checks files with the cloud when installing software. I would not recommend it as a replacement for an AV though.

 

IIRC the earlier versions of OA Premium had AV component installed and scanning capabilities. Then it was
removed later and you had HIPS/firewall combo.

 

There was a third OA edition called ++ that included an AV. That has been discontinued for years though.

 

Does anyone know if Comodo makes any unwanted changes to one's system without informing the user?

Same here. I have been using OA since 2003 for my primary setup. One of the best security products I have ever used!

 

Emsisoft used very good whitelisting with it so I rarely ever received a popup for anything.

 

I loved OA like you said when Mike Nash was the developer of this fine product.
To bad Emsisoft can't evolve OA into a revolutionary firewall, what they have now is not worthy of being called a firewall.
The Anti-Malware is great.

I would like to see OA's HIPS moved to both EAM and EIS and exploit protection added/configured in it. It could be hidden from the average user. Emsisoft is one of the of the few left that has no exploit protection.

 

I ran a few exploits against Online Armor about a year ago. Online Armor did not block the exploit itself, but it did not allow the exploit to do anything other than execute in the memory. You could allow the exploit by OA prompt, and you would just get another prompt, and another prompt. I have never found a bypass for Online Armor. I'm not counting the exploit executing in the memory of course because Online Armor is not an exploit blocker, but if the exploit is blocked from doing anything then the exploit can cause very little harm.

I miss you OA! Those were the days, Snowden was nowhere to be seen, WikiLeaks was nothing more than a wet spot in a nerds jocks. The idea of using a VPN was, like... why?

OA HIPS fully integrated into EAM would be a great product!

 

Lets help one another find a good replacement for the firewall status window that OA has. It shows the country flag for all remote addresses. Below is what I have found so far that fits the criteria. I will continue to add to it as I find more. It's just hard to find a tcp, and udp viewer that identifies the country of origin for the remote address. Also it needs to be handy to launch from the toolbar.
