I would require a thread titled something like: "Sheepishly Admit How Pathetic Your Hardware Setup Is Here..."

But I was once told it's how you use what you've got that matters.

A bit of an update on my rig. I upgraded to a Gigabyte GTX G1 970 about a month and a half ago. I made a custom bios to disable boost and bake in my overclock of 1544MHz core, 3856MHz memory. I still have one of my 650 Ti Boosts installed and dedicated to physx processing. Once I beat Mirror's Edge and Metro Last Light, I'll be selling both of my boosts. The money might go towards a second 970 :D

Additionally, I've acquired some free hardware from some friends and with the stuff I had laying around, I was able to piece together a pc that will be dedicated to a server. I needed some ram for it however so I'm moving the ram from my desktop to the server and using it as an excuse to upgrade to a set of 16Gb G.Skill Trident X 2400MHz ram. Can't wait for it to arrive!

Finally got a new case and CPU cooler for my server. Went with a Lian-Li V354 and Phanteks PH-TC12LS. I'm very impressed with the quality of the case. Lian Li will be my go to for cases in the future. So far, the cooler seems to do a decent job. Nothing amazing but you can't expect great temps from a low profile cooler. It has quite a bit of headroom for some overclocking though ;)

Had a spare 1 GB lying around, so maxed out RAM to 3 GB. Maybe I should try Yosemite...

    Typing this on...

    Raspberry Pi B+
    512 MB RAM
700 Mz single core ARM6 CPU
Running Raspbian (Wheezy) on an 8 GB micro SD card

I love this thing! Individual applications are (predictably) rather slow, but multitasking is quite reasonably snappy. Meanwhile the Pi uses < 10 watts and doesn't even get warm. It reminds me of my first experiences with Classic Mac (OS 8.6), just without the crashes and nuisance value. Have I mentioned it cost me less than $60 all told?

Would definitely buy again. Heck, I'd buy half a dozen.

I'm really excited to see how the Pi 2 fares with Windows 10. Could be an epic media pc for $35.

Removed my internal Blu-Ray drive from my gaming laptop and put it into an USB enclosure. Now need to find an OptiBay caddy and laptop HDD to put in that space. Too bad it's extremely difficult to find locally in Vancouver.

Also got a JBL Spark Wireless Bluetooth Speaker and using it with my laptop internal speakers thanks to Voicemeeter.

    DVD+R,

    Impressive.

What is your favourite thermal paste and how do you apply it to the CPU? Just interested.

never used anything but Arctic Cooling MX-4 and it's never had a problem with maximum cooling, once this stuff has burned in, it's hard to beat, Also I apply a center spot, and spread to the 4 corners with a Guitar plectrum :shifty: or even an old credit card or similar, this gives an even distribution over the entire CPU. The paste layer thickness extremely thin

Actually I'm using 2 SSD now with 750GB data HDD. The old one couldn't be cloned to the new one for whatever reason, so I use my new one for games, virtual machines, music, and whatnot.

I swear, the virtual machines are like 5x faster now, with no more lag compared to using my old data HDD.

+1. I have one VM set on SSD (Windows 8.1) and it is much faster than other VMs set on HDD. It's almost as fast as my host system.
