Just tried Bitdefender Antivirus Plus v18.20.0.1429 (x64) for 3 hours now and noticed no internet slow down. Very light.

It also catches tracking cookies now during scans which is a nice addition.

This thread is not about the free version, which differs considerably from the paid products.

    Then exclude it.

I`ve been using Bitdefender ever since i gave up on Twister.
For me it is very light although i only have the antivirus and web protection enabled, browsing is very slightly slower but not enough to really notice it.

I still occasionally try other AV`s but none seem to perform as well as BD.

Yes they have exclusion. I'm not talking about lack of necessary functions, but lack of good user experience.

So we can conclude that now it is light on system impact but the Firewall makes browsing speed slower?

I think I will try Total Security 2015 later and see how it does on my system.

Remember you don't have to use the extra features and can turn them off, I only use the AV and web browsing. Report back your findings.

When I tried the Internet Security Suite it crippled down my internet badly due to the firewall. Total Security would only be worse as it's full of bloatware. I only go for the AV in any security product but that's just me. Never want any extra junk.

Did not like the IS. It slowed apps opening and blocks some programs from running and cause freezing.

Please contact customer service, what they did for me when I had a 2 year Internet Security License, they downgraded it to the Antivirus only and actually gave me more validity since the Antivirus is a cheaper product.

they are very flexible as in, you can request for a downgrade and either have the license cover more devices or have more validity due to the downgrade.

Do yourself a favor bro and don't install that Total Security, it is meant for n00bs who think that the more expensive a product and more bells and whistles the better the protection, it will actually change your opinion about Bitdefender negatively if you try anything but the AV.

    Just my 2 cents

    I have a few questions:

    1) When I went into my bitdefender account in my browser, it recommended me to install a traffic light for safe search results and malicious URL scanning. Does this mean that Bitdefender on its own does not scan browser or web traffic? (it would actually be great if it didn't and not slowed my internet which it isn't doing right now but I don't know how it works)

    2) Does the Bitdefender traffic light work even if I don't have Bitdefender installed? Or does it work WITH Bitdefender? If it works independetnly then it is not a bad idea to install it for people who use other basic AVs right?

    3) What is Photon technology?

    4) Does Bitdefender have white listing technology as in, it wouldn't scan the same files again if they haven't been altered or changed?

    5) I just tried a Quick Scan and it finished in about 7 seconds. Is this a joke or what? What is it scanning that it finishes instantly? Mind you I have performed a full local disk scan earlier this morning.

Yes. You can use as an addon for either Chrome, Firefox or Safari. You can install it while having other antiviruses that aren't Bitdefender, regardless though you may experience some slowdown in browsing.

This might explain question 4 and 5 as well.

It does, check it under Protection/Web Protection.
It scans HTTP as well (Protection/Antivirus/Custom/Traffic Scan).

They are recommending it for use in Facebook as they are discontinuing the Safego app.

couple of years ago when I ran bd, it seemed heavy &/or slow. Recently, I uninstalled trend 2015 due to a conflict (this isn't neg feedback about trend, I liked it) and thought I try bd_free, sounded good on their web page and read a few ok reviews, went to install it and see popup remove existing solutions. No real-time av is installed so clueless what the bd installer wanted to remove. Is it seeing a firewall as an incompatible existing solution? Or wanting to uninstall a portable on-demand av?? I could have charged ahead and not removed existing solution, but why start off with a not recommended installation, and didn't want to muck up what I have that is running good. PS when I originally installed trend, it also gave me a popup of apps that it wanted to uninstall, and it specifically named them to which I replied ok, and trend ran great until the conflict. If bd_free installer would tell user what it wants to do, I probably would have let it install the way it wanted.

BD Free is TOTALLY different than BD payware. So your post is irrelevant.

I tried to install bd on xp, and installer popped up that it wanted to remove "existing solutions" but did not list them, don't have an active real-time av installed, so I ran bd test tool at suggestion of bd support and sent report to them, they reported back that I should remove some on-demand scanners!(?) that are not running in background, and that bd was not compatible with comodo dragon (chrome) browser. I sorta like dragon and how it works with metascan. Is anyone running dragon with bd?
PS my other pc is linux.

I actually tried it for some days, but I already unistalled it. It made my browsing speed so slowly that I had no other choice.

System performance wise it was very good, tiny impact, but browsing speed was terrible here.

I can see now why it gets so many top awards, but it is definitely not for me.

Was it the IS or the AV?

On my W8.1 AMD system it worked fine for a short while. It's an OEM Windows install.

Suddenly, browsing slowed to a crawl, it kept removing my homepage, and then it caused the desktop to disappear completely. Finally, it caused the entire system to lock-up.

For whatever reason(s), it is very buggy on my AMD system.

For what its worth, BD Free caused very similar issues... so it appears my AMD W8.1 and BD generally do not get along.

I too have noticed few people using it.

There are a lot of complaints about bugs or it won't work properly. Then again, someone else with same system specs has no problem with it.

Due to the problems I uninstalled it and haven't given it another try.
