I want DNS servers that are RFC compliant and work more reliably than my new ISP's DNS server(s). I'm trying Level 3 DNS servers (4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3, 4.2.2.4, 4.2.2.5, 4.2.2.6) now. They perform well in my DNS Benchmark tests. I just found this potentially bad news though.

    From https://www.grc.com/dns/operation.htm:
Some of the Level 3 DNS servers mentioned in the last post partially protect against this.

What does the DNS server mean? I have in my network card OpenDNS ones, but does that mean any. Needs to set in router too to some specific IPs?

    Here is explanation: http://www.howtogeek.com/122845/htg-explains-what-is-dns/
If you set your dns on your system manually, you don't have to set it on router also. If you have many systems connected to your router, you can also change it on router, so that other system will get the same DNS servers if they are not set manually.

I trust and use Chaos Computer Club DNS 213.73.91.35, Swiss Privacy Foundation DNS (77.109.139.29), censurfridns.dk DNS (89.104.194.142 / 2002:5968:c28e::53). There is 2 public proxy.sh DNS too (but I have forgotten them),

Along GRC's spoofability test, all three are DNSSEC, but CCC DNS has some added security features that the others haven't.

Hey, I have switched back to OpenDNS, but FoolDNS does not block all ADs, just bad ones, you still need adblocker, if you want to block all.

I've been looking for best public DNS and my conclusion so far is ClouDNS. Only one DNS who support DNSCrypt and DNSSEC, and no logs (correct me if you know other DNS which support both).
For me, whatever additional benefits it provide, it makes no sense to use the DNS which can be poisoned.

@winlin - I've used those two DNS Servers from US - no problems.

@mantra - I've found a fast and simple way to change DNS Servers on my Windows 7 system using Windows Commands. Specifically, assuming you have the normal setup in which your networking connection is called "Local Area Connection" the following command will change the Primary DNS Server to Chaos Computer Club:
netsh interface ip set dns name = "Local Area Connection" source = static 213.73.91.35

The following will change the secondary DNS server to Swiss Privacy Foundation:
netsh interface ip add dns name = "Local Area Connection" addr = 77.109.139.29 index=2

You can copy the two commands into a Notepad page (each command on a separate line), then make a high level new folder such as "C:\Temp" or "C:\DNS" and save the notepad file in that folder as a "bat" file named, for example, StaticDNS.bat (or whatever suits you) -- then put a link to the bat file on your desktop. Then when you run that link as an administrator, you will automatically change your DNS Servers to Chaos Comp Club and Swiss Privacy (or whatever you have set). All in a single click.

If you want to be able to quickly change your DNS Server back to the default DNS Server of your ISP (as per the setting in your router), make a different "bat" file (called AutoDNS.bat or whatever suits you) having the following single command:
netsh interface ip set dns name = "Local Area Connection" source = dhcp

Don't know for sure if this works for Win8 and 8.1 but believe it would.
