My Samsung Pro 850 SSD has 256 bit AES hardware based encryption in it. But also says it has BitLocker & TC "support" (not sure exactly what they mean by that). Anyhow, would there be any added benefit to using TrueCrypt on this puppy? Or could it even be detrimental if I did? I would like to be able to use it's hidden volume feature at least. If it wouldn't hurt anything I'd like to encrypt the OS partition too with it.
I don't know about TC "support". But Bitlocker (and some other Windows apps) can use the drive's hardware encryption, rather than doing its own software encryption.
The hardware encryption is actually always enabled but by default, there is no password. In order to set a password, you can set it in your bios if your motherboard supports it. I think I remember reading that there's also a way to set it through Bitlocker as well. If you use software encryption on top of it, I don't think it'd hurt anything aside from slightly slower i/o performance from the cpu overhead.
