These files are included in the base. Just thought I could make the backup smaller since they are no longer necessary. Guess I'll need to make a new base.

Ah, I thought that the idea was to get the files back. Sorry about that.

Hey, Myxy, all the action is at Macrium, the result of Macrium v6 making great strides, while AX64 is stagnant, for now.

But if AX64 should "recover" from whatever ails it/them, I'm certain that there will be renewed interest. I still use v2 and am grateful. But I always have to make sure Macrium is also backing up so I know I have a solid system backup.

Tried Macrium v6 last week, slow first backup and no restore from within Windows, so it's back to AX64 v1 for me with AOMEI as my image backup.

AX64 was never going to be, unfortunately.

We need to remember that Real Copy is also on their to do list, although
it has not been updated for a long time, perhaps their attention is on that
also? To me, version 1.4.124 or 1.4.148 is still their best effort and does the
job as advertised for the most part, still lacking some features, but it worked
well for me. I wish them well, but I am afraid they have quite a hill to climb
before they can reach their intended audience with a reliable product as far
    as version 2 goes.

I thought I might pop back after a long absence and pass on something positive.
I use Macrium for my main imaging. (No, the next bit is the positive.)

I have been using AX64 v2.528, since before the 548 beta, which then timed out, and I returned to 528 using a master baseline of a clean Win 8.1 and then several branches (children) in which are installed various categories of software to keep Windows clean and small so I can change quickly. I have one branch with photography/video software, one for office type work and one for programming, while the last is for testing software. Each is kept pretty clean. If I find I am installing extra rubbish, I kill the latest child of child.
I HOT restore constantly between them within about a minute plus reboot time of a little over a minute.
I do this because my previous set up ended up bloated and slow and eventually would not update properly.
This system works without a single hitch and is very fast (I am touching the table).
When I update, I create a new child of child and don't use the child. I use number suffixes to keep tabs on my children
Perhaps I will discover a way to get rid of the inbetweeners safely (maybe simply delete but I am afraid to try).
I guess I will also end up with a problem of my Master, Windows updating, and no longer being the originating parent but instead a semi clone. I can always create new subjects from an updated master, but the old master (clean Win) must remain (as far as I can see) for the previous spawns (subjects).
So apart from these so far minor concerns, AX64 has been very good for me right from and including v1.4.1.48

I too am still using AX64 with no complaint,,,,,I did buy, and am very happy with, Macrium V6 and am using this latter as my just in case program. I find the combination of MR V6 and AX64 (the last version 1 release) to meet my needs beautifully. Have not had to resort to MR for restores as AX64 has done the job quickly each time but its nice to have the security of MR behind AX64. Looking forward to a new release from AXTM (hopefully in about 5 weeks according to AXTM live chat,,,,,,,,, fingers crossed)

Although I have never used AX64 TM type of disk imaging apps (I don't even do incremental/differential), I sure hope AX64 TM could make a strong comeback, simple because it's ISSO's baby and I have witnessed how he cared this product. It will be sad if AX64 dies.
I am not sure about Real Copy, which has never made itself a mainstream disk imaging app, therefore I doubt how far they can go.

It has now been two weeks and a day since I sent the e-mail with logs to info@ax64.com and as of yet I haven't received anything back, sent a reminder e-mail today. Live chat still "offline" for me.

I would recommend patience here... if the missing developer hasn't been replaced yet, it may be a while before anyone can address your issue. If the Dev has been replaced, it may take that person a bit of time to get up to speed on the current design, especially if that design went with the missing developer.

    Just Sanyain'... :D

My issue is with failed restores, both hot and cold, actually it won't even try to restore because I get an error, I sent the e-mail to them with the error code and the logs and I would at least have expected a response that they're looking into it or something. The build in question was the last stable v2 build and not the beta build.

Even if it's true regarding the developer, didn't Waj say they always answer quickly on e-mails and live chat? Pretty sure he did, in fact here's a quote:
Honestly the issue itself is at this point in time not really an issue, since I've moved over to Macrium v6 and uninstalled AX64, but I'm still expecting an answer, be it an explanation of the issue or an acknowledgement that they've even read it.

To be honest I am with Froggie on this...I believe that patience is a virtue and given what we know, rather than what we think, we should allow the AX64 Team the time to sort themselves out, and not heap additional pressure on them. If I recall someone did post that Waj had advised that they were working towards the release of a further beta in the next 6 weeks (which may have been some weeks back when advised) so we are still in that time period.

But in the end...we shall see what we shall see.

    Regards, Baldrick

I got a response from support now after I sent a reminder e-mail, I assume that my first e-mail got "lost" or missed or something like that, who knows, it maybe never even got there....

You guys all have too much knowledge and patience for me - I am not in your league so I've decided it's best not to keep trying to keep up with what's going on in Macrium 6 or AX64. All it does is keep my head swirling. I just need basic backup programs and plod along with my journey - lol!

Bro, you actually made a wise decision as an regular PC user. Me, too, only use full backup/restore from boot media. All I care is: 1. the reliability of the disk imaging app; 2. the speed; 3. the size of the image (compression). I don't do any differential/incremental. All my non-OS backup are manually using Windows Explorer (LOL), and I only do OS backup right after a fresh install and update.

AX64 and MR6 are mainly for computer geeks/experts to experience some good computing experience, much like a hobby. It's totally OK if we only use the very basic functions of an imaging app.

John - I'm in the same boat as you knowledge wise, maybe less. I am just doing full backups at MR while I wade through the User Guide and try to follow the thread. Doing a full backup is really simple. Just go to Quick Start>Imaging Disks.

Actually, AXTM was created for it's simplicity geared toward folks like us. MR can be used as we use it, or you can get as involved as much as you like.

lol, I'm glad that I have simple needs for my computer too...Multi layer security lightly done....AV, virus scanners, hosts list, browser hardening and MBAE...And the saviour when needed...Backups and they're normally used when I mess my system up with tweaking etc in a attempt to get a better understanding of how it works...AX64 was and is ideal for that along with the likes of Macrium....How people wind up with set-ups that make such demands of a backup software is beyond me and I'm glad it is!

This is kind of funny since Issos target market was, and still is, those with little computer knowledge. AX64 was designed to be extreamly simple to set up and use, and it is. Unfortunately it has some issues with restores that make it not ready for prime time but I doubt you could find a simpler imaging program. Hopefully time will allow it to develope to its full potential.

    oliverjia,

In "The Jungle Book", Baloo says to Mowgli, "You're working too hard."

LOL. I'd automate everything you are doing with your backups. But it's your computer.

Your intention is one thing, the reality is another. The reality is, majority of ppl don't even know what a disk imaging program is for, not to mention AX64 alike.
To be honest, the real need for hourly backup for majority of average computer users is bogus. This scheme more likely creates more complexity than it solves. Yeah I know people don't like what I said, but it's true. Once a problem occurs, average joe doesn't know how to fix, nor he knows how to proceed. He does not have the patience to solve the problem, more likely, he'll just ditch the program and manually backup their data instead. The OS itself is constantly evolving, therefore the potential problems will constantly emerge. File backup programs are more fit average joe's needs, because these don't touch system files, so less likely get their OS messed up.
All my colleagues use Windows Explorer to backup their data to external HDDs. None of them use a disk imaging app to backup their OS. I work at a University and I don't even know anyone else in my department use an imaging app.
The potential market for AX64 alike is very small, IMO. This is what I said in the beginning of this thread, and this is what I am saying now. We'll see how things evolve.

The problem was Isso never made any effort to assume his target market was really a market. I agree with oliverjia that the average joe hasn't a clue of why he needs to even back up data no less image his system. Plus if you look at most imaging programs, they are supported by an enterprise market, and for that AX64 probably wouldn't make in the door. I am rooting for these guys but if you asked me to make a bet, it wouldn't be for a successful out come. That is the reality I see.
