Thanks, Ron, but the problem isn't with Windows corruption errors preventing Windows updates and service packs from installing. But the problem is with the corruption of IE files as described in the OP. Also, for those who like to get into technical stuff, these links explain what the problem is(and I have Windows 8.1): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/internet-explorer/install-ie#ie=ie-11 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833#CBS log (This is where I start to get lost.) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833#manually repair
Sorry not clear, I simply mean, taking off data that's important to you, and loading a fresh copy of Windows (reformatting the disk etc). I normally rebuild from the relevant MS iso on an optical disk, and also grab the applicable drivers for your system (graphics, network, sound etc). That way you have a known state, which is not where you're starting from now, even if you were able to fix the immediate problem. Then you have the joy of running updates, loading system protection, hardening and backup, applications, and restoring your data to suit.
Hey, everyone, I'm back! I accidentally stumbled upon a Microsoft site where you could click on a link that would update your Windows 8 computer to Windows 8.1. Well, I already have Windows 8.1, but I was curious to see what would happen if I clicked on the link. Well, it said something like, 'this will take some time, but you will know when your computer is about to be update'. Well, I thought that I would eventually get a message that said that I already had Windows 8.1 and would cancel the request. However, I had forgot that my computer was still preparing itself to update to Windows 8.1 and about an hour or so later, the music that I was playing from my music files stopped. But I was in another room and looked at my computer and the screen was purple like it becomes when it shuts down. Well, I thought, 'Oh no! Am I going to lose my music files and all of my other files that I haven't stored somewhere else yet?' But my computer finished the process of um, updating to Windows 8.1, and when it got back to my desktop screen, my music files and all my other files were in tact. Also, I was able to open and use IE 11(which I'm on right now), plus, I'm also able to use sandboxie. Yeee-hoooo! I am really happy. Also, it looks like updating to Windows 8.1 when you already have Windows 8.1 is equivalent to Windows Refresh without affecting your files, which I tried in post #15, but didn't work.
