Evolution was the default email client on Ubuntu a few years ago, and it was painfully counter-intuitive to configure.
Thunderbird is a much better choice.

Ubuntu is kind of orange. It's a bit white as well. It's pretty nice.

Yeah, I agree on that. I've used Evolution before and it doesn't handle quoting messages with html and/or images in them very well. I prefer TBird too....

    To Joxx and Daveski17,

To change the color (Ubuntu), use the System Settings->Appearance icon to change the Theme - there are multiple choices available to the user.

I just right-clicked on desktop and I could customise quite a bit. But I'll check that out thanks.

    lol
isn't one of the most significant strength of GNU/Linux its customization capacity?
If you want, you can make it looks like Mac OSX

Yes, I quite like Unity as well. I think I'll be sticking with it too.

I have it also installed on my system. However ... I think Thunderbird's usability and extensibility is still better. For example: In the settings you can define just one folder for mails classified by Bogofilter as spam and uncertain, respectively, which is not what I want since I'm using several mail addresses (correct me if I'm wrong). And Claws Mail's calender isn't as powerful as Lightning, IMHO. 2 examples why I stick with Thunderbird for now although the MH format is probably superior to the MBOX format.

I had also tried (again) Kmail some time ago but some things were simply buggy.

EDIT: Another advantage of Thunderbird over Claws Mail: Normally I block external references in mails but sometimes you have to allow them in order to make the mail readable/viewable. Adblock Plus - which is also available for Thunderbird - would still block ads and trackers in those cases. I think Claws Mail doesn't have something like that.

I think Linux is missing some E-mail Clients.. I currently use thunderbird and it seems to be the only worthy option. I don't like any of the other alternatives. It would be nice if we had postbox or emclient or stuff like that.

Ok, so three years later, any new suggestions for email clients?
Tried Evolution but it somewhat buggy.
Slow, and hangs often when I try to drag and drop messages in other folders, so I'm back with Thunderbird...

Yes, Thunderbird is also my choice after trying some alternatives. And I suggest to use it with the maildir file format. It has significant advantages over mbox and has been absolutely reliable for me in the past 12 months or so with no problems at all. I couldn't be happier.

Nevertheless, I'm trying again Claws-Mail. Simply because I'm a bit unsure about the future of Thunderbird. The massive changes in Firefox naturally also affect Thunderbird as they share a lot of code. There are only few developers who struggle hard to adjust the Thunderbird architecture to the new world. I don't know what will finally come out of this. I hope that they will succeed but I want to be prepared for the worst.

    Thanks.
I also had in mind to give another try to Claws.
    Will see...

Claws is brilliant when you get into it.I didn't like evolution because of the keyring popups all the time (although you can work around it). With claws plugins and fonts you can get it to look nice.It notifies new mail for me,shows html, has a spam filter, filtering manager to filter mail to any folder, and i have my two email accounts with one inbox. What more can you ask for. If you are using claws mail for encrypted email, check to make sure the developer fixed an issue that caused the Tails developers to replace it with a different email client a few years ago.
The issue was, Claws Mail would send a plain text copy of the encrypted email to the email server.
I kept up with the discourse between one of the tails devs and the claws dev on bugzilla, the Claws dev was quite curt and unhelpful about this at the time. That is not to say he didn't fix it since then but, best to check.

Installed Claws yesterday night, but the barebones installation looks very dated...
Didn't find a way to *easily* import my Thunderbird or Evolution mailboxes either. (I know it can be done one folder at a time though...)
Didn't find a way to modify the columns in the message list. (move, add or remove fields)
Honestly I don't think it's really worth the hassle to go from TB to Claws mail at the moment.
I think I'd have the feeling of going back instead of forward.

claws can overwhelm a little with options , but it isn't that bad when you use it for a while. To modify columns in message list or folder list just click view in toolbar>set displayed columns.First thing i did in claws was to change the dated icons in configuration>preferences>display>themes.I didn't import any of my emails from windows7 so not sure about the import functions

    Thanks for the hints!
Probably best to configure it to be visually pleasant and not import anything for the moment, and just begin to use it for a little while to see if I like.
I guess it'll be easier to export the newer emails later.
You didn't even imported an address book?
