I have also tried excluding C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drivers\igdkmd64.sys but mbam still detects it if I manually run a scan. What is the point of having exclusions if mbam is going to scan excluded files anyway?

    Problem solved!

I'm not a very patient person and even less so when it comes to potential malware and I just couldn't wait any longer. I have restored a week old image backup, updated MBAM and rescanned - no detection.

So, was it malware? I doubt it. No other programs detected anything and there were no symptoms of a malware infection. My guess is that the [legitimate] file may of some how become corrupt, but anyway...

Well not sure where you reported it. If you reported it to the Helpdesk it will take longer as it could be 24 hours or more before they even reply. Then they have to submit to the internal team about it.
If you report it directly on the forum then someone from the team will typically see it much faster.

So for the fastest response one would report it here
    https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/forum/42-file-detections/

    Thanks

You updated MBAM. The driver file could have been corrupted, ... or a MBAM update corrected the fp. ;)

Why would it? Do you know what a rootkit is?

Would you please bring back the quick scan option in the FREE version.

    Always,

    Thanks.

A little late now, I've already restored my backup, but thanks!

    Your sarcasm isn't appreciated.

When you ask "anyone else" do you mean having the same slow boot experience and finding their audio turned off? In my case no, I'm not seeing those problems. One possible cause is interactions with other security software. What do you use?

Quick Scan= Threat Scan. Its just been renamed. Same functionality depending if you have rootkit scanning turned on or not.

Also 2.03 has fixed some bugs in the speed of the threat scan(quick scan)

My perception is that the new Threat Scan takes quite a bit longer than the Quick Scan in v1.75, but I haven't measured it. It would be interesting if someone would time the scans of the two versions on the same system to get a comparison. Regarding 2.03 bug fixes, do you know what aspect of the Threat Scan was fixed? It seems to me heuristic analysis is the phase that takes the most time, so it would be great if that could be improved.

Hyper Scan is my idea of a quick scan, but understandably MalwareBytes may want to keep it as a premium feature to encourage upgrading.

Threat scan would have to be compared with rootkit scanning off for a somewhat valid comparision between 1.75 and 2.x

The engine was beefed up in 2.x where we can now detect text based scripts and such. So that does take a little longer but we are talking a few extra seconds. Well worth the tradeoff. Also rootkit scanning does take a little longer too if on.

1.75 and 2.x will never be the same speed but should be fairly close.

The heuristic part of the scan did have a bug and this is resolved in 2.03 so it should be noticably quicker then earlier 2.x versions. It all depends on your system.

The main object of this release was stability improvements and resolving of bugs. We still have a lot of improvements in the pipeline for the next release for the recent user testing and feedback we got.

Thanks for the information. I think people tend to think of v1.75 as functionally equivalent to v2, so it's important to point out the differences/improvements :thumb:

Its not really. You do not have the same detection functionality. The engine is different. There are things we can detect in 2.0 that we cant with 1.75.

My recommendation is to do a clean install if you are having problems and if still problems to please let us know what so we can either resolve or report to devs. We would prefer reporting to us directly if possible so we can document and the right people see it directly and not getting buried in a forum thread somewhere.

Threat scan is anything but quick. I want the option to do a scan that takes no more than 5 minutes to complete and then the option to use threat scan if anything has been detected. On my machine Threat scan rub about 26 minutes. How you accomplish this of no interest to me.

    Always,

This varies greatly on machines. On my laptop and desktop these are under 3 mins. Without knowing specs and such of your machine would be hard to say. There are just so many variables to consider. Amount of programs running, hard drive speed, cpu speed, ram amount of files on system.

What you are describing though Wildman is the hyper scan. That is not as in depth as a threat scan and if it detects something then you go to the threat scan Average time on hyper scan is a couple mins at most.

If you go here: http://www.malwarebytes.org/support/guides/mbam/ then click on scan it explains a little better.

If by fixed you mean slowed, you have succeeded. Threat scans used to take around 10 minutes on my two machines but now they take over 20 minutes. I don't think this is an improvement.
