That would explain it. But, my understanding is that SAS will not conflict with antivirus software.

I'm sure there would be no issues there. In which case it begs the question as to why Trend wants it to be uninstalled.

Avira did the same sort of thing with MBAM but if you ignored the warning installation went ahead. As to why I'm not sure.

I think it's getting to be standard practice with consumer stuff. We've seen people with 7 Antivirus products installed. Although we routinely see folks with 3-4. When an issue comes up they usually aren't technical enough to diagnose it, and sometimes come to the conclusion it's the most recently installed product - which probably is the product complaining about the others. I remotely attempted to rectify issues on several machines at a company recently where their 'IT Guy' recommended layering Norton and McAfee for the 'ultimate' solution... You can guess the issues they had. I wasn't even aware SAS was used much these days, no clue why we Trend even detects it unless it uses some hooks Trend also uses.

lol yup i see this ALL THE TIME. i go out to a virus call and find a new client with a ton of different av's installed. just yesterday i had a laptop with 5 different av's running all running real time o_O. its honestly amazing the laptop was even actually functioning at all. the thing was sooooooooo slow. i couldnt believe they were using it like this for so long. needles to say the thing was a disaster it honestly was not worth cleaning it up at all it was so badly infected. besides the other 50-75 (or more i stopped counting) junk programs they had installed. a total of over 250 programs in the list :gack:. i took it back to the office and we did a clean install and put all her settings and data back into the fresh windows install and install just one av and explained why this all happened.

now this was a consumer not a IT person or anything like that but i cant tell you how many times i have been called out to a company because their IT guy could not figure out what the issue was to help out. i have also seen the IT guys installing multiple av's especially norton and mcafee together for some ridiculous reason.

    75% of IT work is cleaning up the mess from another IT. Without licensing, this will continue. Every other field has a licensing body to promote, and if necessary mandate best practices. I cannot believe after all of these years there isn't a licensing body in IT. Sure there are certifications, I have plenty of those, I'm talking licensing, so they can pull licenses, and you obtain financial responsibilities. (aka Insurance) Unfortunately right now there is no way to mandate best practices. Trend for example has extensive documentation on Best Practices for Trend products. I will link this for you;

    http://esupport.trendmicro.com/solution/en-us/1039099.aspx

Infections would be even more rare if Trend Best Practices were followed.

I like the info that you bring to the board. I've already learned a few things from you.

And you are an Anti-Malware Analyst. Very good. Nice background to teach many of us..

If you work for a company discussed on the board, you should probably disclose it in your sig -- to make things nice and clean.

Like, uh, do you or your company have a relationship with Trend? No issue if you do, just put it out there.

    Thanks,

    -Frank

FYI I installed SAS in my XP VM along side TM Max 2015 and there are no obvious problems; the system reboots smoothly and each program loads and scans normally. I didn't enable the SAS trial though and so couldn't turn on the real time protection.

Perhaps a white list of compatible apps could be created over time so TM won't complain unnecessarily during installation? I realize that testing other apps for compatibility could turn into real work for your team, but it would be good if TM did not require complementary programs to be removed.

I have some news for enforced deletion. Unfortunately it will never be removed from Trend, and here was the logic I was given. (not that I agree, merely relaying the data from engineers)

We don't really provide options once there is a detection. It's like whenever there is a burglar and policemen saw him. What they would do is to immediately arrest the burglar. They won't be asking you if you want to arrest it to first. That's how the security works. And also, following the analogy, once a burglar is inside a jail, then there would be an option if you want to press charges or not, same as with the files that are quarantined. It's up to do if you want to delete them or not.

Personally I think that's a bad decision. It's fine for the average users, but for people like myself it just won't do. As I've already stated many times at Wilders, I simply will not use any antivirus which automatically handles threats. I don't know why they don't add the ability to prompt for action when a threat is found as an option which is disabled by default. For the average user who doesn't mess around with program settings, the software will work as before. But power users would have the option to enable it, and choose what action to take when a threat is found.

agreed bad choice. and the one and only reason i will not use it or recc it myself. sad to say because otherwise i did like it. i understand the default settings but a more hidden advanced menu imo would be for the advanced users not the normal install and forget people.

Trend micro Internet Security 8 was just tested and put on Utube by The PC Security Channel. It tested great so i will have to try it out soon. Or maybe not.

As a Trend engineer, here's my take on his test.. He left sensitivity on auto-switching. Keep that in mind as I discuss this. His raw directory malware scan found 97.3%, it would have actually scored higher under hypersensitive, which was not on.
His Zero-Day execution protection Trend scored 100%. This is absolutely accurate, and I was telling people 9 months ago that Trend 2015 will be a game changer for Trend, and likely place it in the top 5 products in the world at preventing outbreaks. Trend will start to ace tests like AVC, just watch the upcoming ones.. The backend of Trend 2015 is the enterprise Deep Security, by the way, and it's a major step up in protection from 2014.

    Earlier in this thread I discuss this in more detail, including the engines. But keep this in mind;

Trend now has a 80-85% HTTP/HTTPS detection rate - that's before anything arrives on your machine.
Trend On-Demand Scanner should be 97-99% range - higher with Hypersense.
Trend Zero Day Reputation Engine should be 100% effective.

All in all, it's probably going to be difficult to infect a machine with Trend 2015 on it, configured to Hypersensitive, with 'extra' security turned on. I won't say it's impossible, just extremely unlikely.

Congratulation! Sounds a major step forward!
I have it installed on one machine and I am impressed.

This is what a company should strive to ... research and innovation with better protection for the end users. I am sure it will pay off :thumb:

Is all of this available in the Antivirus only version or is it necessary to purchase the full security suite to get the protection stated.

    Product Comparison Chart:

It looks like most of the core protection is in the Antivirus + Security product which is the most affordable.

I have tested it myself and I am very impressed by Trend's development under the hood, especially when it comes to zero-day threats. However, I refuse to use a product that does not offer the user an option upon malicious detection. I work with a lot of custom software, so many times my anti-virus software throws me a false positive and I simply cannot have a product that doesn't let me choose weather or not to remove that threat. Additionally, I am an advanced user and I do not at all appreciate the limited options included in Trend's 2015 version or the fact that there is not advanced settings mode. Also Tren'ds lack of a firewall leaves me baffled as many times I find windows firewall to be sub-par. Also, why all the junk and clutter and bloat in the program? Its anti-virus software not CCleaner plus a shitty version of Dropbox plus 1password. To me all that is just unnecessary bloat and is disgusting to see in a "anti-virus" program.

According to the PCmag review it comes with a "firewall booster that works with windows firewall" although the review doesn't explain exactly what it does. Perhaps Mayahana will jump in here...:thumb:

Just buy the Antivirus-Only version, problem solved. The AV+Security version has the powerful 80-85% effective HTTP/HTTPS scanner, AV scanner, all of the other engines I noted elsewhere in the thread, and that's it.... AV+Security is really the 2015 version of Worry Free Business due out next year, it's as lean as they come. Also, there are advanced options, just not in plain sight. The only settings anyone really needs to tweak - in all fairness - is the sensitivity. Notch it up to 'Hypersensitive' if you want absolute protection (including PUA/PUP). Otherwise it's pretty much where it needs to be, which is why it's blasting through all of the Youtube tests (and AVC) with 100% detection.

Most programs are moving to an 'auto-resolve' system for threats, including the latest Norton, and I don't want to spill the beans on some other products, but several other AV companies are moving that way. The reason is simple, you can 'easily' restore anything it takes care of with a couple of clicks, and it's safer to contain it first, and worry about it later, than to present user options that can be confusing. We've done consumer reaction studies, where we place 'average' computer users in a room then test their reaction to popups of threats. Universally it was discovered that when given options, the users tend to make bad decisions, or become confused and not make any decisions, or sometimes one, then the other. Net result was, it's smarter to simply address the issue first, then allow power users to resolve it later through restoration from quarantine. That way the consumer isn't confused, and the power user has recovery options. Trend only realized 1 false positive in the last AVC test, they should theoretically be very rare with Trend unless you deal with a lot of alphas, unseen software, 'questionable' software (torrents, keygens, etc). That means the majority of people using it don't have a concern with FPs. Remember, we're dealing the majority here, not a small handful of power users.

Trend does have a firewall that is quite powerful, and utilizes advanced IPS/IDS signatures over the Windows Firewall API, along with advanced rulesets. Why would there need to be anything else?

Thanks for clarifying that Mayahana. I now realize that the AV+Security version is what I'm looking for. I see your point with the automatic deletion of files, and I realize now that I would probably be fine working with the quarantine and the exclusions. However, I still think that the products that companies are coming out with now that include the extra fluff like system cleaners and password keepers are just features used to jack up the price and prey on the average users. Anyway, I'm going to try out Trend for a while and see how it works for me personally.

Also, making users pay $8 for saving the freaking serial number? Seriously? Any $20 for "support" that should be included for a company that actually cares about their customers? And why can you not buy AV+S for multiple computers WTF?

P.S. Does Trend AV+S come with the firewall too?

Trend Micro's browser toolbar marks up search results in popular search portals. Safe links get a green icon and green highlight; red marks dangerous ones. Pointing with the mouse at the markup icon triggers a popup with slightly more detail......It looks like this toolbar is a Extension that is no longer in the chrome web store. I would not install it anyway..
