So there was malware that bypassed SD? I was not aware of any examples of this.

I am not as savvy as most of the guys here. Can you explain in simple terms what v553 is?

Win 8 (64 bit) here, and with V553 after hibernating the system in shadow mode, it doesn't return from hibernation keeping my display in a grey limbo... With V519 hibernation was working, albeit losing the shadow mode state... However I don't see it as a serious problem, I won't hibernate the system while in shadow mode.

There is another minor thing, when I enter shadow mode, Local Disk (C:) is virtualized, but for a few seconds I get a small window on the tray advising me that "Z: is in a low free space, exit shadow mode now please". It doesn't seem to have any perceivable consequences (see attachment). I've also added a screen shot of my default disk partitions just in case Toni is reading these posts.

@Robin/huntnyc have you tried on a clean VM or image backup without your current security setup? Starting with only SD, test bcd. Add your security setup one by one till you find the cause
Long time ago DF/SD fixed since.

This has happened to me for some time, especially in Windows 8.1, with the latest 553 version and also with 519. So far I have just ignored the message.

Regarding editing BCD problems with 553, Tony responded again and said he could not reproduce the problem on his system and gave me instructions to ry to follow to see if I could get 553 to work on my alptop. Howver, after following those, it did not work. I can edit BCD fine in normal mode with 519 and changes to BCD are erased as expected in shadow mode. So, I believe Robin is correct, these are system configuration specific problems. Will stay with 519 for this time on my Levovo x220.

I would love to run more tests but don't deal with VMs right now. Also, I would probably have to put my system back to factory resore from a couple of years ago and it still may not be enough to get a true clean test of SD. Will let you kinow if any further news and thanks.

    Hi savalnc
Have used Shadow Defender with my SSD's [SATA 3] since I got them in February 2012 without any noticeable negative impact. [Test using ATTO Disk Benchmark]

    Hi,

    i use win8 64bit on my notebook.
the newest version is not fine.

Switch on SD-Mode and than shut down the notebook.
The SD ist configrured to no SD-Mode after boot.
But this isnt. Its again in SD-Mode.

Only if i switch off SD-Mode manually the System boots normally.

Thanks Easter and Tomaz. Yes, I still use Shadow Defender every day and I'm sure that Tony would appreciate what you are saying.
Easter, It's good to see you back here. :)
By the way, I have moved The Official Shadow Defender Forum onto a new hosting and it seems much more stable and consistantly useable.

Thank you Patrick for forwarding my message to Tony...! And thank you Tony for supplying a fix that worked...! After disabling "hybrid boot" (which is not easy to find, I must say) my hibernation problem vanished as well as the "Z:is in a low free space" notice... All is well now, thanks again.

I occasionally get the "Z: is in a low free space, exit shadow mode now please" message with Fast Boot disabled in Windows 8.1, and also in Windows 7.

I've tried 3 times since my last post, and "Z: is in a low free space, exit shadow mode ..." is gone. But more importantly recovering the system from hibernation is quick and the system remains in shadow mode... Win 8 here...

There is a delay when SD starts if you boot to a standard account on Windows 7 (works fine with Windows 8 ) with the latest version. No issues with 519.

This event is happening everytime after a restart or after a shut down even if you have not used shadow defender in that session, even after disabling the startup entry of SD this happens. This error first appeared after i entered the shadow mode.

    A weird phenomenon:

SD causes an additional noise of my new hard disk!

It is natural that there is a (low) noise whenever there is some activity of the hard disk (e.g. when opening a new website, starting a program etc.). But whenever I start to use SD and as long as I am in shadow mode, in these moments there is now a significantly louder noise (fortunately not extremely loud): something like the chirping (of a cricket or cicada) or a slight scratching, anyway a high, thin sound.

I can exactly say when it starts: when I click on "Enter Shadow Mode" in the "Mode Setting" of SD it can be heard for the fist time. After rebooting the computer (in normal mode) the noise is away again.

I use this new hard disk since 2-3 days now. It is a Western Digital WD10EZEX ("WD Blue"). Before I had another WD hard disk (WD10 EARS, "WD Caviar Green") where this phenomenon never occurred.

I am sure that the new hard disk is o.k. (no other issues, CrystalDiskInfo says that all is o.k.). And the noise does not really annoy me as I am not so often in shadow mode. So it is no real problem for me but I wonder about the situation. I cannot imagine that SD when being started causes some temporary mechanical change of a hard disk which could be the reason for the noise. (?)
