I installed B&R 2014 on a W7 64-bit with almost no software. I try to restore an older disk image taken with B&R 2013 or 2012.

The older image is mounted from a Synology NAS over the network. The target is mounted via USB (ICY box).

The recovery process complains it cannot get exclusive access to the disk. But no process is showing up using the disk when pressing the link in the dialog box. And pressing the link aborting all processes that is, makes no difference.

I tried editing the layout.ini file located in the B&R 2014 directory specifying VSS = off. No difference.
Then I tried generating a W-PE recovery USB. Apparently successful, but when booting from it, the PE finds no network??

I tried genrating a Linux boot, but apparently one needs to set up the network and mount disk in a Linux manner and I have no knowledge how.

The machie is practically coming right out of the factory from ASUS (N55S). It cannot really be much simpler can it?

So what i going on, and how should I do to proceed? I recommended the product to friends, but now I am really uncertain this was a good idea.

    Hi Again,
I tried mounting the same setup but on th machine that I took the backup on. It runs Paragon 12. Here there was no problem with exclusive access. It is still restoring as I write. The machine runs W8.1. 64-bit

Still, since I have many machines using the program, I need to know what is going on with the 2014 version on W7 - 64 bit.

    Any takers?

"12" series program are supposedly not compatible with Windows 8.1. See
