Several years ago I had the Norman Online Backup program which I believe was based off Jotta platform. It was pretty good, but I let my subscription lapse and am now looking to get another subscription. I am looking for at least 75 GB capacity, allowing selection of items to backup, and instantaneous backup whenever files are altered. (I do a lot of writing and have been asking for trouble all these years with never backing up online.) What is the going rate per month for this type of coverage? How does MYPCBackup compare to others? I have been bombarded with advertising from this company, and on first blush it looks pretty good but don't know too much about them. It appears that McAfee backup uses Mosey (Mozy?). What about Norton or Avira backup? I am just looking for information in general about what I can expect to get based upon the criteria I provided.
I've used Jungledisk and it's good, reasonably priced, but not that simple. Currently main cloud backup is Crashplan, and SOS online backup as a 2nd one. Two main features I look for: 1)Additional encryption beyond a login password. 2) Versioning with the ability to retain data for an unlimited amount of time. All three give that. Pete
I have been a user and a fan of Mozy for many years; since it's creation/inception. Now, mind you, I only use their free version because I have enough room with the free version. (Early on, you could refer friends and get additional free space. Several friends took me up on it so I have about 10 GB of space.) What I like best about Mozy is that it will do a cloud/online backup at the same time that it will backup to my external HD. So, it does both every night, totally unattended by myself. Mozy, for personal use, is $5.99 per month (US) for 50 GB and $9.99 per month for 125 GB.

My backup client is Duplicati: open source, free, client-side AES-256 or GnuPG encryption, hides metadata, and works on multiple OS platforms: http://www.duplicati.com/ I backup to Amazon S3 which charges me a whopping $0.03 per GB per month. If you use other free or low-cost back-end storage providers such as Google Drive, Box.com, MS OneDrive, SSH, FTP, or WebDav server, the Duplicati client can handle it. And it can do local backups to another drive on your machine, or another device on your LAN.

Thanks for this discussion. There appears to be some good options going forward. I'll likely check out McAfee since it is based on Mozy but has more options, at least that's what I've heard.

I ended up going with Norman Online Backup. It is based on Jotta, but the price is a lot better. It seems to beat all the competitors in terms of price and features. Anyway, I'm happy with Norman.
I am using duplicati since a couple of days. This is a stunning software! After testing a bit the 1.3.4, I've jumped on 2.0 which is even better (even if in beta still). You can even store your backups in Glacier now, which is less expensive than S3.
