What is your security setup these days?

  1. Yes, Although my wife runs for four years now with heuristics high with no FP. She hardly ever istalls software.

    DefenseWall v 3.24 - a rocksolid piece of a firewall.

    Wsa av - v 8.0.4.115 - flyes like a butterfly and stings like a ten pound hornet.

    Who knows how many free licenses can you have associated with 1 email address for K9 Web Protection? I remember someone in here used to be a big fan of K9 and maybe can answer me this question. Thanks

    Thanks for the reply, j. Glad you're still kicking.

    I may be doing the same with Webroot soon. MY subscription with VIPRE runs out next month some time, and I am probably going to drop them.
    I have ESET and WSA licenses, so will go in one of those directions.
    But no pressure, because of Sandboxie.
    With Sandboxie, to my thinking, the name of the AV makes very little difference.

    You're right! I don't think I've ever seen him say that his setup is still the same. ;)

    I'm not sure what to make of WSA as testing ORG's are still trying to figure out how to test it fairly.

    Granted, this is weekend so I have some more spare time to trying out EMET 5. Tested it with default settings at first and then progressively tweaked it for better security. Now I have reached a setting which I will use for quite some time, as the followings:

    System wide settings
    DEP = Always on
    SEHOP = Always on
    ASLR = App opt-in
    Certificate Pinning = Disabled (I'm not using IE so WTH =| )

    Additional apps configurations
    All additional mitigation techniques are left to their default states. What's enabled remains enabled and what's disabled remains disabled. I was tempted to enable EAF+ and ASR in the long run, I am new to these two. But there are some additional manual configurations and I don't feel like messing around with those settings. From what I've read and I can understand in EMET's user guide they don't seem to be that important anyway. (please note that I am not suggesting anything, there are huge chances for me to make mistakes in my statements. EAF+ and ASR might have much more important roles than what I made them sound to be.)

    So far I don't notice any breakages. Nice! If it really doesn't give problems anymore EMET might stay in my probably the best free security setup in the world. =V

    And yes, I still think anti-exploits are overrated. Ironically, amongst all these anti-exploit hypes, EMET is rather underrated.

    Thorough and reputable testing of Webroot SecureAnywhere is long overdue.

    Do you do anything extra like a scan of new software before setting AppGuard's Protection Level to "Install"? My current solution to having to drop AG's protection level when doing an install is also running an AV.
