Ok I got really annoyed that so many sites now days abuse javascript, many running it in the background and it got silly when I Seen an idle IE with 40 or so tabs open sucking up about 40% of my quad core haswell, and since I wanted to lock it down security wise I have now made the internet zone by default no javascript (Active scripting) and add whitelisted sites to the trusted zone which has settings suitable.

This has been working reasonably well until I had to use a page which has a unsigned ssl cert, this causes some kind of failure related to res://ieframe.dll. I have found one other person on the net here https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general/mTd6pXEQu0Y who posted but got no fix, yet others run IE like this so surely they have a solution?
