    Hello bizz:

Please check to see if your system permits/blocks the following web/IP address:

    Code:
    108.161.189.195 updates1.spywareblaster.net
The above is the IP address/name for a Content Delivery Network (CDN) server for spywareblaster.net

    HTH :)

    Hello 1PW

Can you please explain how to go about , to see if your system permits/blocks the following web/IP address:
I have no clue how to do that.

I'm not sure but, he may mean 'ping' the address

Details on how to that here....

    http://www.wikihow.com/Ping-an-IP-Address

    I would use the name

    updates1.spywareblaster.net

If I was testing... if the results show reply times it means nothing on your computer is obstructing the address (or that's my understanding)

Please run a short diagnostic first.

    1. Together, depress your keyboard's Windows + R keys. A small "Run" window should appear.
    2. Copy & paste, or type, the following Code: into the "Run" window's "Open:" box:
    Code:
    cmd.exe /k ping updates1.spywareblaster.net
    3. Single left-click the OK button. The "Run" window should disappear and be replaced by a DOS-Command window, and a short ping test should start, last a few seconds, and report results.
    4. What is the common IP number reported in lines 1 through 7?
    5. What does the 8th line report? e.g. Packets: Sent = etc, etc, etc.
    6. Please reply to this thread with your results.
    7. You may dismiss the remaining DOS-Command window.

Simplistically, the object here is to "reach out" to your computer's DNS server with SpywareBlaster's CDN IP name. Your DNS server should reply with a unique IP address and CNAME. Using the IP address from the DNS server, four small test packets are routed to the SpywareBlaster server and that CDN server should respond with an equal number of acknowledgement packets on a return path.

Many, many more detailed things really happen but, super simplistically, this tests your computer's firewall + Zone Alarm, (router) networking, your ISP, DNS servers, SpywareBlaster's CDN server, and all related Internet connectivity.

    Thank you.

    Hello bizz:

Except for the one minor dropout, you seem to have an unfettered path to/from the SpywareBlaster CDN server.

So, using any browser, please click on this URI: http://updates1.spywareblaster.net/sbversion6.txt

Please direct your browser to "Save (page) as..." (Ctrl+S) using the default filename. Please attach that file using the "Upload a File" button in your next reply.

The above verifies the identical http protocol portion of the overall update handshake, used by the SpywareBlaster application with its CDN server, without using your SpywareBlaster itself. This simulates roughly 20% of SpywareBlaster's hand shake, with the CDN server, when no database updates are found.

    Thank you. :)

    Hello bizz:

Thank you - the above test result is what should be expected.

If you have not already done so immediately prior to your original post, please uninstall/download/verify/install SpywareBlaster v5:
    1. Perform an uninstall using the Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features or optionally an "Advanced" uninstall with Revo Uninstaller.
    2. Reboot.
    3. Only download SpywareBlaster v5 from http://www.brightfort.net/downloads/spywareblastersetup50.exe.
    4. Verify file integrity using your own checksum utility against Brightfort's published MD5hash or upload the downloaded file to VirusTotal.
    5. If the installer's file integrity is perfect, install SpywareBlaster.
    6. Reboot.
    7. Test SpywareBlaster's "Check for Updates" and please reply to this thread with status.
Continuing, this should have produced a fairly clean re-install and at least one DNS flush.

If however, you have done a recent clean re-install of SpywareBlaster, I am still not totally sure your firewall/Zone Alarm product is not part of the problem.

Please temporarily disable the firewall portion of your Zone Alarm product and test SpywareBlaster's "Check for Updates" and please reply to this thread with status.

    Thank you. :)

First thing I did was totally un-install ZoneAlarm and spywareblaster was still not downloading updates.
Funny thing though, I ran the Revo Uninstaller, then downloaded SpywareBlaster as you previously stated,
and SpywareBlaster is downloading updates again.

    Thanks for the help 1PW
