Damn now I have access to a greater scanner that surpasses hitman pro and with all hitman pro capability. Over 60 av engines to scan my pc and also fast and lite its great. Specially now with full removal capability that surpasses even hitman pro and any av and anti-malware. I say this because in my tes herd-protect not only removed the malware detected but it also scans for left over or any other changes or where ever the malware may have hidden (like an anti-malware uninstaller instead of just remove or quarantine). So its cleaning is more in-depth then any other av or anti-malware suites out there. Sort of like a anti-malware combines with an uninstaller with remain or left-over scan.
it has a lot of av scaners wich is a good idea to have some like this is like another second opinion scanner good job my friend
How about false positives? More AVs usually means more FPs. For example: lot of legitimate files gets blacklisted when I submit them to Virustotal... hqsec
Yes it has false positive but its assesment is great and better then other avs. For example if up to 5 avs detect a file as malware, then herd protect advices " not enough data to make a decision". thats take care of false positives. If more then 5 avs detect then again depends on its assessment and your decision to remove, report false positive or ignore. Still with any detection it allows you to ignore, remove or report in.
Reason Software Company Inc., the parent of herdProtect Anti-Malware, may not have been granted permissions from at least one of the 68 engine authors, to use their products. Is Reason Software is in possible violation of those 68 other product's EULAs?
Why should it, if it is not for profit and its free. If so then virustotal should be in violation as well and others too.
I definitely wish they'd trim down the # of engines. More is not always better, they should just keep it to the AAA AVs.
well in the quest for the 100% cleaning may take more and more avs. Heck the highest ever I saw in my tests was 99% and that was with 10 AVS and antimalwares scanners. No AV can give 100% protection cleaning but you can get close to it. Anyway the best guarantee clean is a full format and re-install. Still 68 engines to have to scan a pc is far better then only a few ones.
I doubt they have. They don't have from us at least. That being said, I don't think they need permission either. Essentially what they, or anyone else for that matter, can do is, they just license the scan results from VirusTotal. I wouldn't be surprised if that is exactly what they are already doing.
They dont have any permission and dont need. As Fabian mentioned, they are just a client version of VirusTotal with custom API. They have no backend or whitelist or anything like themselves.
Herdprotect is a great product, by a trustworthy guy. Nobody remembers GIANT Antispyware? Same guy. I assume he was under lock and key from Microsoft from buying it - non-compete. That's likely expired, and his next baby is HerdProtect? HP now stomps HitmanPro pretty handily, but also he has developed his own machine learning system based on those 68 engines. Which you guessed it, will be put into a product at some point. I hope it's half as good as GIANT was back in the day.
You guys need to stop these finds. Now you have hooked even my attention and am downloading the Portable Version purely out of curiosity. Such a treat!
Hi, I just tried out the portable version. No issues, clean and simple user interface, seems interesting. Regards, Kardo
hitman pro reduced the number of its avs to 2 and also charges a license for removal after 30 days trial, but herd protect offers the similar product to hitman pro with 68 avs and free of charge with full removal. Also herd protect (mentioned on their site) will add proactive protection (shields) in the next quarter and that would put it way over hitman pro and turn it into a full fledged anti-malware competing and perhaps over passing top security products.
Surely if he develops a product that directly uses the capabilities of the other scanners,in order to provide direct benefits then he'll need the afore-mentioned permission at that stage?
This is correct. Anyone that knows Andrew, knows HerdProtect will be a full fledged Malware product soon enough. Take a look at the detections, and note the detections of his own Machine/Heuristic learning system. Essentially what is going on is, he is using HerdProtect to build a tremendous malware database, and using 'should I remove it' to build a tremendous whitelist/blacklist cloud engine for that same eventual product. No permissions needed, period. Not sure why people keep saying he does. Personally I am excited. HMP is dead to me, only 2 engines, and fairly expensive, it serves no real purpose anymore. HP replaces it - immediately.
cruelsister found out the HP versions of the scanners are/were quite a bit weaker than the real thing long ago: http://malwaretips.com/threads/herd...anner-with-68-scan-engines.20519/#post-148759 Maybe it's improved recently, but that's unlikely.
Considering it's an evolving product, still in beta.. Likely. In fact, there have been 112 revisions of the product since that so-called 'test' back in 2013, including adding a full removal/remediation engine into the product. FYI, Cruelsister's test is pointless, irrelevant, and absolutely uninformative. Anyone can say anything they want, and unless he is willing to duplicate this test, verify versions, and provide detailed threat markers - quoting it is ridiculous.
you need to fix the part you said "malware" to "anti-malware" So it would not give the wrong conclusion. lol.
