ID-Blaster Plus FAQ
What are these ID numbers?
-In Windows, many applications have something called a "product ID number", a "GUID, or a "Unique ID". This number may be the same through Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player - even the operating system itself - or may be unique to a particular program.
It sounds harmless - why should I worry?
-Since this number nevers changes, it would be the PERFECT way a malicious person or even an advertising company could UNIQUELY track your habits. Maybe through a malicious website ActiveX control, or java applet. OR a spyware program on your computer could communicate this number out and use it.
Even more alarmingly, some applications send out this number automatically when you browse a website that uses a certain plug-in (ex. Windows Media Player), when you try to download streaming media, or even when you just start the application up!
Well why not just delete it?
-In this case, you would have a constant ID of nothing - and given the small number of people that might also have that "null" value, it could still be used to track you. (ID-Blaster Plus does, however, provide a "set all to null" feature - added at user request.)
What does ID-Blaster Plus do?
-ID-Blaster Plus works by changing these ID numbers frequently, destroying tracking tactics using these numbers. ID-Blaster Plus can run from the system tray, using up very little resources, and constantly protect you in the background.
Can I have ID-Blaster Plus start automatically with Windows?
-Yes - in fact, ID-Blaster Plus can start automatically minimized in the system tray right when your computer starts. (But you must manually add a link to your "startup" folder in your Start Menu.)
Why is ID-Blaster not listed as being compatible with Windows XP?
-ID-Blaster Plus is NOW compatible with Windows XP! Download the latest version, 2.0.
Windows Media Player tells me it randomizes its ID by itself, what else does ID-Blaster Plus do?
-Actually, Windows Media Player only randomizes the last couple digits of your Unique ID number, and it can still be used to track you. ID-Blaster Plus completely randomizes this ID number (along with many others), preventing tracking techniques.
