hi i have update w10 anniversary update , and now i noticed that fast startup was enabled when i updated and used w10 anniversary update , i have another 2 solid disk with w8 and w7 , and 2 hard disk with data i knew that fast startup can cause disk corruption what should i do ? restore the w8 and w7 images? chkdisk is enough ,isn't it? thanks
mantra, This page describes how to disable Fast Startup. http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/ucf/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=427 Corruption can occur when you write data to a partition that is hibernated. I experienced this recently on a friend's laptop. An IFL image was written to a USB external HD. On rebooting the USB partition was RAW and the data was inaccessible. The data could be seen in Linux but the backup image wasn't present.
An interesting description is here: http://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pros-and-cons-of-windows-10s-fast-startup-mode/ I dual boot win7 and 10. On a laptop. I had a devil of a time initially. Months ago. Windows 7 kept doing chkdisk every time I wanted to be in it. I don't recall if Win10 did that as well. Probably it did. Once I disabled hibernation and fast startup all is well. My disk is MBR kind - BIOS - Legacy. I gather that if you disable hibernation, fast startup goes away automatically. After anniversary update two days ago, Power setup dialogs no longer show the possibility to hibernate and fast startup. Just two options remain. That puzzles me, not that I intend to use them. I just wanted to confirm fast startup is off, and have no clue how to do it.
If you disable hibernation, the Fast Startup option does not appear. If you re-enable hibernation, it will appear. To enable/disable hibernation: enter the command powercfg.exe /hibernate off [or on].
