My second best pc died after many years of service and i decided to buy a notebook instead, which, being obviously gifted with Win 10, forced me to many days of tweaks and attempted
decapitations ,followed by install of a couple of backed up images.
Now i'm a bit devoid of energy for the last act of declaring the computer as finished:
    the install of AppGuard.
I downloaded last version 5.2.9.1 and realised that in my past years with previous versions i had never received a password, which awoke me to the fact that if i want version 5 i need to pay a new licence.

But do i need to or maybe vs.4.2.8.1 can be successfully used with Windows 10 64 bit?

I dont really think so,although i hope,as i need some financial respite for a little while....

Can anyone in the know please enlighten me?

    AppGuard 4.2.81 will be sufficient.

Lock Down mode is recommended, but Medium mode will provide high security.

In all honesty, there is not a substantial difference between 4.2.8.1 and 5.X except for minor bug fixes, feature fixes and policy changes.

    Add to User Space (YES):

    c:\windows\system32\reg.exe
    c:\windows\sysWOW64\reg.exe
    c:\windows\system32\wmic.exe
    c:\windows\sysWOW64\wmic.exe

I also recommend you do the same with both powershell.exe and powershell_ise.exe in both System32 and sysWOW64 file paths.

Currently, in version 5.X - powershell is a Guarded App; it needs to be moved to User Space (YES) as the vast majority of typical users have no need of powershell.

If you have any additional questions, please ask.

    hjlbx,
thank you very much for your detailed reply.
    Such a good news!

I've found two possible downloads :

    AppGuard Setup -released in April
    and
    AppGuardSetup 4.2.8.1-released in February,

    both 20.960KB.

Is the latest the best option?

When you visit AppGuardUs.com directly, it links to V5. The overview page I posted above the download link is from an old "Announcing AppGuard 4.0" e-mail I got from BlueRidge.

See links in @FleischmannTV 's post. It should activate with your current license key.

there are still customers with "old" 4.x-licenses, who maybe need to download it :)

I know. I am waiting to hear officially how BRN is going to handle precisely that situation. I myself preemptively backed-up a copy of the 4.4.6.1 installer to the cloud.

The download link for the 4.4.6.1 installer isn't directly linked to appguardus.com.

    That's a problem...

in the "foreseeable future" they will cut off the 4.x licenses.
    ...weeks, months? We'll see.

thanks for the care you took sending the download link.
Unfortunately vs.4.4.6.1 requires the same validating password that 5.x asks, practically
cutting off any 4.x license holder from the program, at least older ones.

At this point i think i will install again the latest 5x and just wait a few weeks to buy a new license,as i do
not feel like giving up with AppGuard by all means.

I only hoped BR or Barb might have offered a partial discount to long time customers, but i acknowledge
that-for what they do-they probably deserve the full fee.....

    @hjlbx,

are the rules you suggested for 4.2.8.1 still applicable to the latest 5x versions?

I've got to make a sharp U-turn on what i declared before:
when I found that AppGuard 5.x would cost me 29 € I was prepared to pay,but unfortunately it is on a
yearly basis, which I dont like too much, and to nothing amounts the benefit of the fact they dont charge you for the first two weeks.....
I already pay 19 € per year for Hitman Pro alert, but they provide a continouus job of monitoring, why should BRN ask that much- and not provide any discount to early aficionados like me? After all AppGuard is a set and forget-like prog, and most of the job is made by the user to accomodate other programs........
not to discount the fact that the greatest job is made by a few geeks in this forum.

Too sad, there wont be any Appguard in my notebook, I will patch with other programs like sandboxing+HIPS+virtualisation.

In my other pc -Win 7 64- i'll keep appGuard 4.2 until it is feasible.

    regards

    karad

  15. Driver of AppGuard V4 will soon be useless on Windows 10 and on Windows 7 and 8 next year due to hashing requirements of Microsoft.

I hope BRN doesn't wait too long.
"New customers" get a license for 5.x, not 4.x.
AppGuard Personal 5.2 is mentioned and downloadable from their Homepage.
It's a stable release, not beta

BRN is aware of it and they have a plan. Issues of backwards compatibility remain to be sorted out.

AppGuard 4.4.6.1 is in full time unprotected mode. If there are no blue screen crashes for 3 days I will uninstall it and never use it again. Windows 10 is having serious problems, intermittent errors of seemingly random kind. I get several blue screens each day using Chrome. There are so many memory blocks in Chrome by AppGuard that could be the reason. Could put Chrome in unprotected mode but decided to turn the whole thing off and see how it goes. Uninstalling AppGuard is a problem because Blue Ridge gives me a hard time with activation. I'm using a new pc. AppGuard was running fine until they did two automatic updates. It may be time to sunset it. I did try to comprehend the help guide and flip through the setup screens, but you have to be the developer to understand it.

I had a series of problems with 4.4.6.1 as well and not on windows 10,but on Windows 7.

At first the computer-AppGuard,Sandboxie,HMPalert- and windows 7-64- would abruptly stop working
monitor-wise,which would all of a sudden become either utterly black, completely white or with parallel lines.
This took place at first every 10 hours or so,then it became every five, then every ten minutes so i decided to
think if the damage was hardware or software.
Having excluded hardware after tests I realised that the only
change i had done to the computer was an AppGuard update from a previous version,4.2. or 4.1.
Please bear in mind I had relied on appGuard+Sandboxie for YEARS before.....

I had no need to uninstall to check if appguard was the culprit, just put back a Paragon image of half an hour before the update.
After one month computer went back working fine as usual, even in the hottest summer conditions,I can safely presume I did right.

I cannot provide any proof of what i say as i just erased everything with a backup image, but, believe you me,I have no interest at all in bashing vs.4.4.6.1 ,rather the opposite,I wished it could still work even with Windows 10,which ,unfortunately ,it does not.

Updates are not so innocent as they seem-Microsoft docet- as a few years ago I had my graphic card burnt by an Nvidia update, which did not pay for it only because my computer was still under warranty and the graphic card was replaced at no cost.

If I were you I'd try to replace the faulty program with Shadow Defender in combo with Comodo CIS and /or Sandboxie, by all practical means an equally valid combination security-wise.

It's been 24 hours and not one blue screen with AppGuard disabled. The only change was out of 4 RAM slots, I made channel 1 duel mode, and channel 2 single mode, instead of mixed dual and single dimms, and applied the Windows 10 anniversary update (huge improvement). Chrome browser was updated a number of times and my best guess is that it's incompatible with AppGuard. Two more days of no blue screen and it will be uninstalled. I'm waiting for Norton to make a malware feature in it's Anti-Virus program. Will check out Shadow Defender etc and study the threads.
