They can access my Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter accounts. They will need to create such accounts for me first.

The "curious" thing of course is how this could possibly be legal in the EU. A person would quite reasonably think that private communication would remain that way, and not revealed to 3rd parties without permission by your correspondent - irrespective of the Tos of the social media company. And if they did so, then I guess you could have a civil case against the person.

So, of course it will happen.

Helps, as you say, not to have accounts with the blighters.

    Earth .... occasionally
"If you're living a normal life," Thornhill reassures me, "then, frankly, you have nothing to worry about."

Statements such as that one are of themselves , something to worry about :)

" ....Tos of the social media company .... "

I don't believe they actually give a "Tos" about their users

Agreed, the only concern that I have is that in the future you will be denied a loan because your social check had insufficient information.

Being denied a loan might be a blessing in disguise. Perhaps there will be a growth industry in having a set of FB personas with a group of your friends, created to order by a helpful service, with the sole aim of increasing your plausibility as a good citizen.... You wouldn't then even have to look at the thing or spend any time on it.

Good idea for a business. Build fake facebook and linkedin profiles, set your grad school as harvard, put fake links to Goldman Sachs and pre-populated comments with the hamptons and how you could never have children because they will decrease your disposable income.

It would be very concerning if they use this for employment. Typically this type of tech favors those who are able to pay somebody that understands the tech. I know that when I was job hunting I paid for my resume to get optimized for computer algorithms (many employment pre-screens are done by computer). It was not cheap but in the long run it was very beneficial and increased my callback rate significantly. I can see this technology leading to the same outcomes.
