Given it is the modern age this is has become a privacy concern, particularly since it is tied to the online world (online by default). Am I paranoid in thinking that the government is likely to misuse this data internally and tie it to your IP address. The scary thing about the census is that they say no income information is required because they get that from Revenue Canada. Given that it is compulsory, any tricks for handling this? What would happen if you logged in over TOR What degree of fake information is tolerable? Any thoughts?
Yeah I did the same thing as well. I thought about VPN, but question whether that would raise flags as well. The government is very vague about the term confidential. If they share information with Revenue Canada it is likely that intelligence agencies are getting are copy as well.
Which thing? I definitely wouldn't use a VPN, or Tor, or anything weird. This is all about your meatspace identity aka true name. And the government. So you want to look as normal and unremarkable as possible. Census may share stuff with taxation, intelligence, etc agencies. But there's no point in fighting that. Just make sure that there's nothing interesting to see. You may use VPNs, and Tor (ideally through VPNs). You could hide that by hitting public WiFi hotspots from some distance. But lots of people use VPNs. Still, there's no reason to draw attention to that by trying to hide your ISP-assigned IP address. Yes?
