Sometimes you want to post a screenshot of your settings in a program. It is some time ago that we had a general thread about those utilities and what you prefer to use. I found this old thread from 2007 (maybe there are more recent ones) https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/good-screen-capture-utility.162560/ So, what is nowadays your preferred Screen Capture Utility, and on which OS version, and 32-bit or 64-bit? Please give also the link to the site of that program, tell us whether it is free or not, does it come with nagware that you want to avoid, well any info you want to share and is allowed.
I usually just use Alt + PrtSc, which captures only the current Window, paste the screenshot into MS Paint, and then save it. I use Microsoft's Snipping Tool, when I only want to capture part of a Window. In the past I have used TNT Screen Capture, which is free.
Shutter (Linux only) puts to shame everything I tried before, Windows included, free as in no money, free as in FOSS
At home I use PrtScr, but at work I use Snagit: https://www.techsmith.com/snagit.html (payware). I also heard some recommendations for PicPick: http://ngwin.com/picpick
Screenshot Captor is a great program https://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/screenshotcaptor/index.html
Interesting to see, that after 9 years, I still use XnView, it is simple, takes a few secs, name it with a timestamp, so it is OK for occasional screenshots.
I use Faststone Screen Capture 8 and BBFlashback freeware. Both have capablities to record video also. Faststone has scrolling windows capture also as with PickPic and ShareX (both freeware). Check out below: Portable version of Faststone ver5.3 --last known freeware (no limitations) http://www.portablefreeware.com/download.php?id=775 Installer version of Faststone ver5.3 --last known freeware (no limitations) http://files.totalsoft.org/F/FastStoneCapture/FSCaptureSetup53.exe http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-screen-capture-tool.htm
I still use Gadwin PrintScreen, it's for me the most simple to use. I sometimes also use DuckCapture, for stuff that Gadwin can't do. http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/ http://www.ducklink.com/p/free-screen-capture-tool/
More than 10 years I'm using FreeCommander - it has own tool for making sceenshots...it's very easy, convinient and useful.
I have Snagit 12 on Win 7, but to be honest I don't like it that much. The much older versions I liked more. But that's just me. Maybe I am going to look for a more simple one, and I don't need any extra features like you can upload your screenshot to site X or Y. It must be me, I guess.
winsnap payware but lifetime licences ,runs from xp to win 10 32/64 bit http://www.ntwind.com/software/winsnap.html
