"Never 10 is an easy to use utility which gives users control over whether their Windows 7 or 8.1 will upgrade itself to Windows 10. The name “Never 10” is a bit of an overstatement, since this utility may also be used to easily re-enable Windows operating system automatic upgrading. But the primary reason for using this is to disable Windows' pestering insistence upon upgrading Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10. https://www.grc.com/never10.htm" Only released on Mar 30 2016 & already it has had a Total of 96,394 downloads. WOW ! It just shows how many people so far don't want to be nagged/forced to go to W10.
Here's a comparison of Never 10 and GWX Control Panel for those interested: http://www.infoworld.com/article/30...er10-vs-josh-mayfields-gwx-control-panel.html
Hi CloneRanger, With all due respect, why didn't you make the threadtitle something like this: "Never 10 - Windows 7 & 8 App to Block W10 Update"
Nice article. W7p64. I have had GWX Control Panel for months in monitor mode. I also did the Group Policy manually. But M$ must've rolled that back & I only found out because I applied Never10. So I have both.
It will also show you that you have upgrade enabled if you have Group Policy settings correctly set and don't have KB with GWX update installed. It checks for two registry key and if either is missing it shows you that upgrade is enabled. This can be misleading for those that did not install GWX KB update.
Here is technical explanation how Never 10 works: https://www.grc.com/never10/details.htm It checks for two registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx\“DisableGwx” and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\“DisableOSUpgrade”. You said: "I also did the Group Policy manually. But M$ must've rolled that back & I only found out because I applied Never10." That might not be true if you didn't have first key set. Both keys must be set for Never 10 to detect Upgrade as being disabled.
@ roger_m You beat me to it @ FanJ Hi, sorry for the late reply. I didn't think All that would fit in the title when people just viewed threads etc, not posts. I guess this forum software allows more room in titles than vB did !
