Hi, I am looking for an alternative to Thunderbird and today I chanced upon eM Client which sounds quite interesting http://www.emclient.com/ I was wondering if anybody has used it, and could share his experienc. Thanks
I stopped using Thunderbird earlier this year, because it was presenting continuously warnings abourt certificates. I installed eM Client, have used it in Windows 7 and 10. No problems, it just works as expected.
I have used both eM client and Mailbird. For me, eM client is head and shoulders better than Mailbird. I find eM client an excellent replacement for Outlook.
if it still have no configurable spam filter pretty useless as a pure mailer - and too expensive. handling is ok. emClient is more than an email client -> calendar, contacts, task - like outlook. i have a softmaker license and there was a security update in march but at least this fork is dead. i use becky! mail now for a long time and it is also portable (sync mails) but i am trying opera mail now as an alternative (native portable itself) #edit still no spam filter, poor for such a software
Hi, Newbino, I don't know why you're looking for an alternative to TB, but I'm using FossaMail. http://www.fossamail.org/ It's based on Thunderbird the same way Pale Moon is based on Firefox. In fact it's from the same developer. So, if you don't like TB you probably won't like FossaMail. However you may want to try it if you just want to get away from Mozilla or are concerned about their lack of development of TB.
I am not sure that local spam filtering is going to have a future as everything is moving to webmail which you can configure from there. Sorry if I missed the point.
Outlook Express was excellent but I can't get it to function in W10. I know I have read posters stating it works for them in 10. If so, how did you make that happen? Thunderbird was problematic, however, Fossa (I do have a x64 machine) is mostly acceptable but has redundant folders, as in duplicate sent, trash, etc, so it sure isn't perfect. Would love to have OE back!
I may sound crazy, but I agree with you ! I too would love to have it back on my Win 7 Pro 64-bit. Yep, Upgraded over V6 without problem, all settings and accounts imported, backup work like a charm, nice new interface (dark theme), delayed sending, i like it. Rules.
Does eM Client support PGP/GPG yet? They kind of half promised it ages ago, but never really delivered.

I´ve been using it for 2 years now and I am very happy with it. I was looking for an alternative to Outlook when I discovered it, it´s the closest thing asfaik.. I connected my Gmail account to it and it works like Outlook for me. It has been stable 99% of the time. Occationally it cant connect (maybe once or twice a year) for some reason, I really dont know if it even has anything to do with EMclientt though.
That's such a shame. I feel outside of Thunderbird, which is just a horrible mail client with completely ridiculous limitations (4 GB mailbox - why?), no mail client gets GPG right on Windows. Here is hoping eM Client will get it right eventually.
In my case, v. 7 doesn´t work (Windows 10). It losses all configurations after I close it and reopen it.
That 4GB mailbox limitation is due to the default mbox mail storage type. Personally, I have been using Thunderbird with maildir storage type (which does not suffer the same 4GB limitation) for several months now, though using Thunderbird in general since it first separated from the Mozilla Suite. Thunderbird's maildir storage type was added with release 38.0.1 (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/38.0.1/releasenotes/) back in June of 2015. It has not been switched to the default storage type yet because they are awaiting a mbox to maildir conversion program/extension which is being worked on right now throughout the GSoC, though maildir itself is stable. At the moment, starting with a new profile is recommended since conversion from mbox to maildir has the potential to be problematic. Although for the more adventurous, I have outlined step by step details on how to convert a Thunderbird profile over to maildir manually with great success. I should also note that after switching over to maildir storage type, my Thunderbird experience/performance is significantly faster and snappier. Hello, I post this for informational purposes as I have not yet figured out how eM Client updates via its internal updater. I have observed that the download links on the eM Client website (http://www.emclient.com/dist/latest/setup.msi) always downloads the latest version available. Since version 7 went stable on June 30th, I have observed at least 8 new versions available via downloading from the website, but the eM Client internal updater has never found a new version. The "Release history" page (http://www.emclient.com/release-history) only lists 4 updates since the stable version was released on June 30th (2 of the 4 were today). Note that there is not a release history on June 30th for the first stable version (7.0.26432.0). The release notes for each version since the stable have been exactly the same: The only reliable way that I have found to see what is the latest current version available is to click one of the download links on the website and observe where the file is actually downloaded from as the build number will be in that link. For example: As of this moment when you click on a download link from the website (http://www.emclient.com/dist/latest/setup.msi), it redirects and downloads the file from http://dist.emclient.com/dist/v7.0.26687/setup.msi. This link redirection changes with each new version and it shows what version that you are downloaded. In summary, on my system, I cannot rely on the eM Client internal updater to keep me up-to-date with the latest version. In fact, so far, with version 7 I have never been notified of a new version being available. I am assuming that they are not pushing out all of the updates via the internal updater but are releasing them for manual download on their website. Also changelogs are not posted for all versions and the ones that are posted are limited in information. I have asked their support questions regarding this, but so far have not received an answer. I will post back when I do. I have been keeping up-to-date by manually checking for new versions and updating when one was found. On my system, I have found each update has been more stable and reliable with less resource usage than the previous versions. For myself, updating has been worthwhile for a smoother running product. From a security point of view, I cannot really say as whatever (if any) security fixes/updates are not really pointed out in the limited changelogs. Also, as of this posting, version 7.0.26687 was released today with the changelog above. I will try to post back to this thread as I see new versions available and will post a changelog if one was posted to their "Release history" webpage.
