There is already a thread about this, but unfortunately someone in their infinite wisdom decided to close it.

I have struggled to comprehend why my favorite Office sweet has become increasingly harder to afford.

    Come on Microsoft.
No-one is going to pay a yearly fee to use your glorious sweet.
Maybe it is aimed at business, but what about the personal usero_O

I simply don't understand what imbecile in the MS camp decided that this business model would work.

It has become a billion dollar business, so failure seems to be the least of its worries.

Do you mind providing me the details of the success of the 365 business model if you don't mind?

It may be expensive, but there are alternatives. If you don't specifically need MS Office there are plenty of alternatives that are much cheaper or even free. If you do need MS Office, but don't have to have the current version, you can buy old versions a lot cheaper on eBay for example.

The cost is probably not much of an issue for business use.

Office 365 is mostly aimed at business users if you ask me. Home users should stick with non-365 Office Suites. Unless they plan on doing collaboration and wanting to access their work and Office programs from multiple devices.

I can tell you that that at my company, the implementation of Office 365 and OneDrive for Business are the current big project (along a few others).

I am not sure what the complaint is here. For 5 computers the full suite can be had for $9.99 a month. For just one computer it's only 6.99 a month. Personally I think that is very reasonable. How many folks spend more then that on either cigarettes or beer.

Agreed. If you obtaining it legally it is actually cheaper this way. You can pay $229 per machine for Office home and business and get less (no Access or Publisher) x5 is $1145. At $99 per year for 5 computers, it would take more than 11 years for the money to be equal and you would get no upgrades.

I actually pay less for my 365 subscription that both me and my wife use, plus the included minutes in Skype and cloud storage than I payed for my previous cloud solution so i consider it both affordable and a good deal as I get an always up to date version of Office as well...

I don't think you can legitimately get away with comparing a productivity suite with voluntarily paying for toxic substances...

That being said, I've yet to find a "home user" that isn't satisfied with just using LibreOffice.
