Fanboys versus Haters - you see it all the time on forums. There is definitely an emotional attachment people have to certain products. It has become way too predictable . An Op starts a thread and the flying squads swoop in. "Apple inspires the most love from consumers". In the USA, for sure. This article I read today speaks to some of it ... http://www.cnet.com/news/apple-inspires-most-love-from-consumers-says-study/ Microsoft, under new leadership, has recently adopted much of what Apple has been doing for years. Satya Nadella, CEO Microsoft, has stated that he wants everyone to 'love' Microsoft. Windows 10 has ignited a plethora of emotional response, but to date the emot-guage seems to be flickering between 'like' and 'augh' , rather than on the illusive 'love'. I have not come across too many haters of W10, but the company itself, yes. Tech is a tough industry to get both product and company 'love'. Steve Jobs achieved it, so say many. Maybe this will always remain an enigma.
Really, look at a few threads about Win 10 here and you will get a whole crowd. :-D I recall an interview with Steve where he said something like that ... "You have to put yourself in the user's position. You want it smart, user-friendly, appealing, easy to use and intuitive". Can we say this about MS products/applications? Don't get me wrong, I like Win 10, I think it is by far the best OS they have ever made but because I also use Apple devices I can say that Apple is doing better than MS, much better, in the spirit of Steve's words.
I respectfully disagree and say that the frustration and even the anger is directed at Microsoft, not the product W10, itself. On this forum ,the windows update borks thread focuses exclusively on what MS is doing to 'trick' users to install W10 and the posters are objecting to the trickery rather than W10 itself. Others, such as the W10 Announcement thread represents the more positive user experiences. Some users have stated that they are enthusiastic about W10, but are not ready to upgrade at this time. I see that as an endorsement, however others see it as the typical Luddite. If they choose to wait, they are not haters. If users have upgraded, they like W10 but have their reservations about some of the more controversial privacy aspects that they do not like. They are not fanboys. Here the forum moderators allow a lively discussion, however it has to be respectful. On other forums it can get down right nasty. To add: MS has done poorly with smartphones. There has been a a lot of haters on this front. However, their Surface Pro and Surface Book are getting notice. There is some 'love' there. Corporate America is showing strong interest in the Surface Book and MS have said that they can not keep up with the demand. Time will tell if W10 and this hardware will be the love combo that MS wants so badly.
I confess: I was a hater of many things, but I'm changing myself to understand more about other people's perspective on things, specially related to Microsoft. My paranoia is coming down to the point where I'm actually considering installing Windows 10 if I can put the privacy settings down. I also hated Apple and it's products, but I don't do it anymore, specially with Tim as a CEO. As with Linux, every OS has it's positive and negative sides; and after a comparison, they all seem to create a balance on the "OS world". I would consider installing OSX too if I had an original DVD. In the end, users must be free to install whatever they want, whatever fits their needs. As emmjay pointed out, most don't hate the product, they hate the actions that a specific company takes. I too dislike how Microsoft pushes people into installing Windows 10 and I also hate how they have a monopoly over the OS market; but at the same time, I love Windows, it's way more fun than any other OS, despite it's security and privacy problems.
