Current Version is: UltimateDefrag Version 4.0.98.0 (Release date: 12 June 2012)

This common windows operation comprises Disk Management but on the matter of commercial third party Defragmentation's for HHD's.

Ever since Isso first introduced this (first ever of it's kind) Disk Metaphor defragger by way of DiskTrix, it for me was a breakthrough of sorts in micro-managing the manner in which common disk platter types could be defragged to the end-user's preference. I quickly became I think it's biggest supporter and in spite of some reported small issues (aside from complaints to Boot-Time issues) It offered multiple features to accomplish file placements and not only to the program's presets but also introduced manually capability wherein you can "drag n drop" entire folders of files (or just individual files) for desired placements on your HHD to your own personal preferences for optimum efficiency.

In my opinion it was "Leap" far beyond anything ever attempted before and it still WORKS!

For me, it was Defrag Automation at it's absolute best and safely On-Demand without any services/process dependencies that many other present day commercial one's claim must run to be effective. Nonsense I say. Who needs yet another added process monitoring your reads/writes etc. and on-the-fly move and/or fill empty spaces while in windows active sessions.

After all this time i still find this (abandonware now?) UD4 entirely up-to-task even on my Windows 8.1 and it's still proven to almost cure a rainy day for my systems. I have tried every single big boy defragger available, O&O Defrag, PerfectDisk, etc you name it. This one rules the day over any others for me and being now 2016 i'm frankly quite surprised because it's not been updated or upgraded to a new version since 4 was released back in 2012.

Does anyone else still find this defragger working to near perfection for them as I have? Now mind you since I am on Windows 8.1 and UEFI/GPT that for safety sakes I absolutely avoid Boot-Time operations but AS-IS for common defrag who needs that anyway right?

@EASTER I don't use UltimateDefrag myself, but there is a slighty more recent version available.

The app worked very well but I have experienced (2) major system failures (both of a Win8 variety) following a standard defrag operation on UEFI configured systems. Both, with much work and some luck, I was able to get running again (not as UEFI systems but as Legacy-MBR systems. Both of those systems had completed multiple UD runs without an issue then BOOM... they were gone.

I really can't trust it anymore... but I did like it a lot for a bit.

I wish I could share you enthusiasm Easter. I have 4 licenses and I wouldn't use it again. Offline defrag never worked at all. Isso's only explanation was it was done as a third party extra. I alway's wondered why Isso couldn't do it himself. Not impressed. I now use Perfect Disk and it does work as advertised.

@TheRollbackFrog That's strangely very unfortunate and it would be unsettling for me as well. I've yet to experience even a hiccup on my UEFI configured systems and in fact is worked very well all along so far.

    Now on to Pete.

Man oh man how I can only wish that Isso was back at the controls with UD in some compacity because he is the one that when first introduced I harbored plenty of reservations and relayed bugs to him early on but he was always quick to identify, confirm and then remedy those issues and point out other various advantages that really at the time blew me away for a Defragger in what could be accomplished.

Before Isso's attention to it I couldn't have cared less about Defragging and any performance gains from that operation.

I tried Perfect Disk too and while it's a keeper of course, more importantly it is a very active supported program and that means something of course.

Offline Defrag works absolutely flawless for me on Windows 8.1 (Win 8.0 before that) and I make it a point to manually MOVE big GB/Mb files to selected areas of the disk either closer to the best performance (Videos i watch often Star Trek LoL) or the absolute farthest (Winre.wim REFRESH) to the spindle ring area and actually prefer doing that then using the Presets built-in.

The circular metaphor makes this even more efficient and a joy to work with from my standpoint. I have and do catch it sometimes not fully completing the cluster line to the full or jumping over to more distant area of the disk and aborting occasionally from time to time, but I discovered that little bug is easily overcome by repeating the process (manually) and then it DOES complete all the way. Kind of akin to uninstalling and re-installing software we might have to do at times.

far be it from me to even bother Isso about this app anymore because he washed his hands from DiskTrix long ago I know but that program is not been renewed or updated since Isso left so that in and of itself speaks favorably IMO of his expertise. I'm just pleased as peaches that it works great even as (abandonware?) even now and I attribute that too to Isso.

Not only those features already aforementioned but the impact of watching the activity from it's circular real-time metaphor on a 70 inch Flatscreen HDTV harbors some awesome visual appeal.

Interesting, didn't know Isso made UltimateDefrag ..
Might give it a shot on one of my old laptops with some old IDE HDD on it.. (Win XP PRO SP3 POS 2019 ;) )
My other machines got SSDs so defrag is not needed, and certainly NOT recommended cause it would be useless.

    edit:
For the record, there exists OLD Freeware version (1.72) also..

Guy's what are you basing ISSO's involvment with Disktrix. From his posts here I think he was just an employee.

    Isso's involvement as "developer".

If it still remains archived here there's a topic where he first introduced UltimateDefrag if my memory still serves.

There is also this very long thread from some time ago.

Isso as he is well known for offering his support addressing an issue at the time

I know he was one of the developers, but that doesn't mean he was Distrix. We don't know what his role was.

Agree. I never said that he was DiskTrix only that AFAIK he first introduced UltimateDefrag but more importantly i'm particularly curious why there's very little mention (if any anymore) of yet another (abandonware?) which is not quite junk heap material since in reality it does still serve a useful purpose for windows platforms plus in fact I yet to find any other commercial or freeware third party that packs their feature sets along with a similar circular disk metaphor as UltimateDefrag4.

If there is please by all means share it. If not then it begs to question why not?

I have to admit I loved the concept, wouldn't have bought 4 licenses if I didn't. But for me it was always just a bit flakey, and offline never worked at all. All Isso could say is that offline was done by an outside third party. Always wondered why he couldn't have done it. Frankly it sort of performed a bit like the AX64/TM/FB mess. Flakey.

Completely understand the frustrations and duly noted. Perception is everything. Either product development stays with it or they throw in the towel and leave it behind as a lost effort and in so doing turn off a lot of supporting customers who deserve better for the cost they provided.

    No arguments there at all.

In my instance I had almost chalked it up too but had some extra time to give it another look. And again to reiterate, what's left behind in that final last version does has some issues for me too but really nothing serious at all that a retry hasn't fixed and certainly not serious enough to drop altogether so i decided to get every dime from my license and not been disappointed.

I now use it once again regularly on both 8.0 and 8.1 Windows x64 bit systems. That being said I also am not so naïve as to do any boot-time defrags. No, that's been completely off the table ever since one of my rigs was fudged because of it. On the positive side of matters the regular defrag is performed to expectations and like I mentioned earlier, it is performed flawlessly and without question my favorite Defrag for platter drives AS-IS.

    HI Easter

No argument that it is still useful to you. But is it really still very now. Sorry Nope.

No problem. And that is your opinion (PD is always been your fav LoL)

I been used to this before as you know but just like the same with some other (abandonware) apps I find if it works (and it does) and serves the purpose intended (still does) then it's still pretty now even when compared to the mainstream actively supported programs.

Indeed a great concept and provable enough when fact checking if those data blocks actually pointed to file(s) on the system.

The offline (since you remember well) was no stranger on this end either. Now that you mention it that was strange ordeal of the boot-time apparently third party developed and I couldn't agree more one might expect that Isso could have done the developing to that function instead of leaving it outsourced which now in retrospect looks to been the main culprit in that line ending right there. It kind of started the tipping for the entire line of dominoes since it was touted as being an integral feature. Oh well I guess.

And in similar respects, AX64 just when it was really showing some promise, everything began to unravel right at the point of nearing a workable finished product too.

Beats me. I gave up when AX64 was sold/merged or whatever because it didn't get acquired IMO by the right vendor and now that decision is proven itself for it's worth.

At least DiskTrix didn't continue to try to refashion UD in the same manner. I can make quality use of it's last release well enough to still trust and depend on it to perform to expectations with some minor limitations that don't prevent defrag or accurate file placements. I can't offer the same confidence for AX unfortunately.
