I'm helping a friend out with a Java update, we see 2 versions of Java 1 of them says 64 bit the other doesn't, do we uninstall the non 64 bit one or both? We are just doing an update so perhaps uninstall both so we can install the new one fresh, what should we do?
When yuou install the update, you should be given the option for the installer to remove the previous versions.
you can have both installed, x64 and x86. same as you have installed internet explorer or firefox x64 or x86. but firefox and other browser dont support as x64 any plugins except flash and silverlight, not sure about IE but edge has same restrictions.
It's not just the browser, software that depend on Java needs either one of those versions as well (depending on whether they're 32-bit or 64-bit of course). But usually they use the 32-bit version.
