He (Eddy) has no idea of the actual numbers of people who have left and for whatever the reason may be or the number of tickets, refunds, etc. He is not an employee of Avast so there is really no way he could know this type of information.

If you have any problems with avast then the best of luck with their forum as you will need it.The forum is drenched in complaints and bugs and refund requests, all of these hardly ever get solved.

Condescension and patronising fanboyism are the order of the day at avast forum.

To be honest, for the desktop free version, I've had no problems on Win 7. Avast! replied to a ticket I submitted quite promptly only recently. I don't know about the Android version. I admit there can be some fanboyism on their forums from some responders, but so far I haven't had any real problems with Avast!. Touch wood. :doubt:

Avast lost about 10 Million users over the last months, you can look into the stats in any Avast install under Tools>Statistics

Of those 10 million users that you estimate to have left, of which I question the accuracy, how many left because they were upset with Avast? It's an unknown. There is no way for us to know. Could it be due to retired XP machines? Could it be because people have purchased new Windows 10 machines? Are more people using Windows Defender? I am certain some users have left because of problems with the program and the ads. There is no security software that works flawlessly for 100% of its users. Obviously, according to the graph, there are still users who continue to use Avast. What does the graph show are the remaining users? Would 230 million be accurate?

In the end, it doesn't matter. From the trend of continuous increase in users, it now started falling. And I've observed a similar trend. There is almost no communication like we used to have on avast! forums. It's what launched them into what they are now. Through great communication, through user/programmers feedback. Which is now entirely gone unless you're a total annoying pain in the ass and then they somewhat notice you. Especially when you see avast! team online on the forum and they don't seem to bother answering rather simple program related answers.

And if other users are like me, they are getting tired of avast!'s mediocracy. They feature all this fancy tech that most of the time doesn't even get used to its full potential or they just keep on stumbling behind half the competitors in all tests. Just look at the scores. In 90% of the tests, avast! is always somewhere in the middle. Not the best, not the worst, the forgettable middle of the road. Like c'mon!? I just don't get it how for example BitDefender managed to come from crappy god awful buggy antivirus to one of the best antiviruses in existence and keeping that crown for years now. I don't care about junk cleaner, I don't care about password manager, I don't care about remote assistance at this point because those few times I've needed it, it never worked, I've come to avast! because of protection. And in the past, without all the fancy tech it was on the higher spectrum. It wasn't the top dog, but lets say it reached 4th place most of the time. You know, that ungrateful place. But since it was free and communication with dev team was great, people loved it regardless. Those times seem long gone and despite them implementing all this awesome tech, they keep on insisting on the "playing it safe" method, remaining in this damn mediocre forgettable spectrum.

I don't get it why can't they add "Aggressive Protection Mode" for starters and dump all the high tech, even experimental protection features tuned up to the max in it. If they felt Hardened Mode is appropriate for mass usage, I see no reason why this can't or shouldn't be done.

And what I especially hate is how most AV's are absolute design and interface disaster. avast! seems the only one left that doesn't use dreaded god awful launcher panel or idiotic settings restrictions (like 24 hour update cycles in freaking year 2016), but it's plagued by protection problems. Something that should always be No.1 priority with any security software. It's why it exists in the first place.

Aaargh, I'm rambling again. It's just how I see it and you can be quite sure I'm not the only one. And that shows in the numbers eventually. One way or another.

I wonder, for how long can Avast pretend that losing users is not a big deal. Just remove the nag screens. Is this too hard?!?

It's not just that. There are also other reasons.

Are you referring to other reasons for losing customers, or not removing ads and nag screens ?

I haven't seen a nag screen for quite a while. Maybe everyone nagging Avast! about nag screens finally worked.
