Currently i have cinnamon and the xfce desktops installed on my mint installation. Any known issues in doing this.?
Once I had KDE, XFCE and MATE, aall together. No problems at all. You can even open multiple sessions with different DE's, like XFCE running on tty1, MATE running on tty2, etc.
Thanks. Now speaking hypothetically could i uninstall cinnamon if i so wished.I much prefer the xfce desktop as it is more friendly towards the computer. It was the linux mint cinnamon edition i installed so i understand there may be some caveats in removing it.
No problems that I'm aware of. Obviously you might lose Cinnamon programs, such as the calculator, file manager, etc, but XFCE has all of that too. For example, KDE has "Kalculator", while MATE has "galculator". But you're not gonna face any negative consequences if the system was well-built. Just remember before removing Cinnamon to check if there's a file called ".xinitrc" in your home folder. If there is such a file, see what's inside it.
You can first simulate the removal of anything to see what the consequences will be (as a close approximation).
