I'll destroy the internet chip on all my smart tv's, when I buy them.

I see you haven't left much doubt as to how you feel about smart TV connectivity. LOL!

A little less permanent solution might be to just make sure the smart TV can't join YOUR network unless you authorize it. I temporarily connect mine via ethernet cable when I want to, and never provide wireless credentials. I also have the device MAC blocked in my wireless side of the network just to prevent remote activation of wireless and subsequently connecting (although my ddwrt is pretty locked down).

I probably should be concerned about my smart TV's eavesdropping on conversations, but so far it seems kind of "tin foil".

LOL. Yup! It's better to just destroy the chip entirely, because there's no way of telling how the TV's internet components work, what they do, etc. You can't trust big corporations on private stuff.

@amarildojr A better alternative would be to just not connect it a network.

The best option, don't own a TV at all.

I own a smart TV, but I'm seriously thinking about never connecting it to the web. I just hope that the on demand content of my ISP will be improved, so that I don't need services like Netflix. To clarify, obviously the content from my ISP is not delivered over the web, but via the cable signal (DVB-C).

But my point was that you never know if you control it or not. It's like Windows :p
