A few days ago, Glarysoft released Malware Hunter, an on demand virus scanner using Avira's scan engine. Glarysoft are well known for their very popular (but unremarkable - in my opinion) system utility suite Glary Utilities.

As you can see from the screenshots, the user interface is a blatent ripoff of the UI from 360 Total Security. I'm really suprised that such a well known company would choose to create a product with an almost exact copy of another software's user interface. I am well aware that the Chinese don't care too much about copyright, and these are both Chinese companies, but still this is suprising.

Malware Hunter offers no real time protection, and costs $14.99 for a yearly subscription.

Not a "ripoff", that is 360. They just scrubbed the 360's cloud and BD engine.

    So a better 360 version with no fp's ?

It has no real time protection.

@RejZoR Are you sure it is based on 360, and not a ripoff?

Why would any company risk legal problems this obviously?

@RejZoR I agree, it would be a bad move. But, when I look at the program's folder under Program Files, there is nothing which indicates it is based on 360 TS. Glarysoft is listed as company on all exe and dll files.

This has absolutely nothing to do with 360QIHU in any way, shape or form, whatsoever.

I also get the impression that it's a 360 clone, so perhaps Qihoo offers the possibility to sell re-branded versions.

EDIT: I just read GakunGak's comment, so seems it's indeed a GUI ripoff.

Better use Emsisoft Emergency Kit then.
On-demand scan only, and free for personal use.

english or chinese language only. nah, i dont like it, for on-demand solution too much registry settings.
EEK known as a2 before same, but thats another toy story.

150megs for database and 20 for program code - reason i like mbam, sneak & small.

It's just another modern/metro (for the lack of a better decription) GUI, a design so devoid of visuals the criteria is fonts and what to color the rectangles. With white being the predominant choice for the latter. No wonder they're all starting to look alike. But, isn't that the goal? That this resembles something else (not just 360) is not a rip-off. It's laziness and lockstep and China has no monopoly on that.
    Well, that settles that. :argh:

This is all sounding vaguely familiar ....
.... wasn't "a certain company" ( no names mentioned ) blatantly ripping-off definitions from the Malwarebytes database ,
including the ringers that MBAM had planted there to catch them at it ?

    Too funny !

In my opinion it is a very blatent ripoff 360 TS. If you have used both, you will see just how similar they are. Rather than looking somewhat similar, the UI is a very close copy.

I'm pretty sure he means that it is not a licensed copy of 360 TS, and was made without consulting Qihoo.

They might have (or just plan) real-time protection based on the strings in the language files. Has anyone bought it?

The GUI definitely reminds people of 360 ! Some wordings are exactly the same, i.e. “Regular virus scans will help you remove threats promptly”

Maybe some die-hard fans of Glary Utilities. ;)

Why is Glarysoft a chinese company?

Well, if so, it's not a big thing for one to rip off the ui design of another... In fact, you'll find the ui of the major three very similar...

I've always found the software industry in China a little mystifying.

There are some very familiar names based there :- IOBit , Glary , EaseUS , AOMEI ...etc

My ( limited ) understanding is that copyright law is not built into the Chinese legal system in the same way it is in the West.

    Can anyone clarify this ?
