I created a rescue bootable CD Rom with ATIH2016. PC boots from this CD Rom but stops at the promt GRUB>, waiting for a command. How to open the GUI menu, like in the previuos version?
Right, the procedure for TI 2016 is identical. The only difference I noticed is that under Win7 64bit now the Microsoft ADK for Win8.1 is the default choice (used to be the AIK for Win7). So the recovery disk will be based on WinPE5 instead of WinPE3 which will ensure USB3 support. Please note that creating a PE based recovery disk is not possible with the trial version of TI 2016. In order to download the required Media Add-On you need to be a licensed user. Generally I find that Acronis should make the procedure to create a PE based recovery disk a little easier and less time consuming (like Macrium and AOMEI and EASEUS). Downloading and installing the ADK or AIK takes forever, after creating the recovery disk the kits are useless for most users and can be uninstalled. Luckily this is a procedure you only have to do once (until a new version comes out). Cheers manolito
I don´t use Acronis, but my experience with WADK [for Windows 8.1 or 10] is different. Installation takes a few minutes and it can be uninstalled in the normal way via the Control Panel. I always install WADK in Shadow Mode [using Shadow Defender], only for creating a WinPE ISO file, and therefore I don´t need to uninstall it. But I agree that downloading and installing WADK shouldn´t be necessary just to create a WinPE. The Macrium procedure to create WinPEs is very good.
I also feel if you can't make the PE recovery to trial, it isn't a trial. I would never buy without being able to test.
What? The Win10 ADK which Acronis requires has a size of 6.5 GB. With a normal DSL connection (plus taking the less than stellar Microsoft servers into account) just downloading the ADK takes at least 3 hours.
I downloaded WADK for Windows 10 1511, the download size was 3.3 GB. The installation took 4:50 min [old desktop] and 3.6 GB in disk space [you have to install only the components needed to create a WinPE]. As I recall, the Macrium download is about 0.5 GB.
Wow, you must have a real fast internet connection... Downloading 3.3 GB in 4:50 min means that your download speed is 0.68 GB per minute. Very impressive. I just tried again, this time I also deselected the unneeded stuff from the ADK (ended up with a size of 3.4 GB). Download and install took 44 minutes. I also checked my internet speed thoroughly, under optimum conditions (fast university server located in the same city) I can download a 1GB file in 18 minutes. Quite a difference. Cheers manolito
