Hi, my old Linkysys G54 router finally died. I have Comcast triple play = $10/mo to rent their modem. After reading reviews I found a TP-LINK modem and router on amazon (TP-LINK DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem and TP-LINK Archer C7 AC1750 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router). I installed them and all is running fine, except for the minor fact that the modem does not have the phone input, so my triple play is minus one service! I need to maintain a landline so my questions are: 1. Will my landline work if I connect it to my wifi router? a. phn has RJ11 and router RJ45 2. What affordable, typical home use modem with landline phn port/s should I consider? 3. What is a good landline service alternative to using Comcast? Thx!
I started using Ooma about 3 years ago and I'll never go back to standard land lines. It costs me about $4.00 US per month. BTW--I have Comcast high speed internet. So, I know that Ooma works with Comcast. Keep in mind, it is VOIP.
I made it a point to separate my internet line from my phone line. I didn't like the idea of everything coming all though that same 1 device (modem). And now I see that it was causing interference issues that no longer occur and bottleneck. I use Comcast just for internet and Verizon for phone & TV (DirecTV, but they're owned by Verizon). When they tried to tell me I could actually get all 3 cheaper if I went through them for it all then it would cost just to pay for internet service that threw up some red flags for me. And they made the transition very difficult. I love my RJ-11'less, non rented modem + AC 1750 dual band router. I won't be going back and will gladly pay an extra, nominal fee for the benefits.
