Hi All, Haven't posted here in a hundred years, but now I have a question. I'm using Paragon Free 14 (on Win7) and backed up my drives last night. I was under the impression that Paragon created a mirror image of the HDs, but I didn't recognize any of the files on the back up drive (Separate, portable HD).....can't make heads nor tails of'em. Here's what some of them look like: hdd-o-pvhd hdd-o_eoo,po1 (through po15) hdd-o_eoo.pbe Did I do something wrong or am I using the wrong software . Any help will be sincerely appreciated. Hint: you created a sector backup, not a file backup. A sector backup contains an "image" of a partition or of the whole disk, and is comprised of several files. In this image the information is compressed and coded in a special format that you can´t read directly. The purpose of the image is to "restore" it if there are problems in the partition or disk backed up. For doing this, you don´t need to know the specific contents of the image. It´s possible to process the image so that you can "see" the files that are in it, but this is normally not necessary. Browse the Paragon manual (a PDF file) for the program you used for more information.
Thanks, Robin. All that being said, then why not simply use DISKCOPY rather than backup. It would accomplish the same thing; it would look the same way. It would take more time and space, but I have plenty of both . Or.................one can just use a "backup service". I like to keep it simple, but understandable .
