Is that supposed to be a joke? There are more than enough better alternatives. WD would be like my last choice.
Yes, I'm using Windows Defender. On Windows 10 Pro x64. Well integrated and never any problems during daily use, updates and/or upgrades.
I never used it, but now appears to be a reliable product, but I think (and this is just my opinion), it has to recover much ground for public confidence in it
Although the best choice for AV stability and integration, it's just too weak for my tastes. If it included a nice zero-day module, I might consider using it.
great question bicC, I dumped Web and using EAM on one with windows 10 and Windows Defender on 2 others with Window 10
Same here. It seems copying, extracting files slow down with WD. Do you find copying, extracting files slow down with WD?
No, I'm not having any slowdowns. I remember the old 4.6.x and 4.7.x clients could give you a slight pause right when you opened a folder with many executables. But I didn't have slowdowns during daily use or during extracting, copying and such. Now with 4.8.x and 4.9.x clients on Windows 10, I have zero slowdowns. Extracting, archiving, copying, opening folders full of executables or removing detected threats - everything is running smooth. But almost all equipment that I own are running very fast i7's and a i5, so in general it's impossible for me to push the hardware hard enough to slow it down.
Using Defender on my W8.1 installation and it has performed well. Many say that it can't/doesn't but I have always proved them wrong by imaging the drive and then running full trial suites of FSecure, ESET etc. All come back clean. Heck, even the much maligned Defender in Vista has performed the same in that full scans by other suites report it as clean.
I use Windows Defender only on my Insider version of Windows 10. Haven't experienced any problems with it.
So I guess Defender protected you from a lot of malware that you would otherwise run? Or should we assume that you are using your computer wisely? I just don't see how having a clean system has anything to do with AV/AM you are using and nothing to do with your computing habits.
I was using Windows Defender on Win10 and had absolutely no issues as just one layer of security protecting that machine. I only reinstalled Norton because it is working fine and I have a current licence, but if I didn't have that licence I would be quite happy to stick with WD. With WD active some programs did take a little longer to open but other than that I didn't see any negative issues. It isn't as bad at protecting a machine as many think.
As I've said before I never use Windows Defender (not even of Vista and Windows 7 where is only an antispyware app). I find it too be way too heavy for liking and it causes noticable slowdowns at times, even making boot times on one of my Windows 10 laptops using a SSD, much longer. If it was lighter, I would quite probably use it.
No. I once said that if/when I migrated to Wn7 I'd just use Windows Defender because I figured it'd be nice & light, with it being integrated and all. But I found Emsisoft AM to be much lighter while disabling the WD service, not to mention more effective, and so went with that instead. I recommend it to anyone using Win7/8. Very light & effective.
