Upload/Download

    If I have posted this question in the incorrect forum I would ask one of the Moderators to please move it for me. My question is why are Download speeds considerably faster than Upload speeds. I am sure there is a logical reason but I have no idea. As always I would appreciate all replies and would thank you in advance.

    I'm not sure there's a technical reason. I think it's just that for typical users, there is far more demand for download bandwidth than there is for upload bandwidth, so they have set up their systems to prioritize that.

    Plus, some of the uses that would consume a lot of upload bandwidth are things they don't want you doing on a residential account (running a web/email server, massively seeding torrents). Although this may change as there are more legitimate uses emerging, such as uploading to cloud storage services and live streaming of video.
