Look like great products? Although i guess many on here don't seem to rate WOT from what i've read...or maybe they just rate machines more than people? :)

The great VT Hash Check thread seems to locked...or maybe it's just locked for idiots like me. Any update on that software, and more importantly does anyone use all 3 of the above together as an alternative to regular AV's?

I was thinking of going back to the free Avira AV, but then remembered that they install the Ask tool bar if you want ''web protection'' and i dont want that. Plus i like the fun free stuff and a light system.

I've ditched my AV (not Avira) so am just weighing up my options. I have Toolwiz Time Freeze installed (using it now, sandboxie doesn't like my PC), so in a practical and nerdy interest point of view what about all of these together and keep an AV off my system?

Any other software to look at, much appreciated.

    Cheers

Well, I use it rarely, about once in a month. Due to all these engines and me using alpha/beta softwares, there are always FPs, so I need to manually look at everything. Besides, herdprotect caches a lot of entries here, which I think is probably the unknown hashes C:\Program Files\Reason\herdProtect\Scanner\Cache. I usually use herdprotect once after I do a clean windows install, just to check.

When you are scanning for the first time, herdprotect will take a lot of time to upload/classify unknowns, which might be a downside to some.

On topic: Are you looking at the correct VT Hash thread? For me it's open and showing the reply options. I started using VT Hash few weeks ago myself.

IMO, if you are using anti-exploits like MBAE/EMET/HMP.Alert with a good firewall and a good security software (EAM/Webroot my favorite), you should be able to avert most malwares.
