Spyware Terminator - I used to love this application when I owned my PC in 2008. Today I gave it a run in VM with Windows 10. It still has a free version, lacks HIPS module, low system impact, updates antispyware definitions peer-to-peer, detected 4 cookies as low threat. Don't know if the update delivery is regular.

Edit: Just found that there was a recent thread about it in Feb 2015. Mods may want to merge these two threads.

I have never trusted this app. But can you perhaps post some screenshots from the HIPS settings?

How F-port engine is still active? Hasn't it been acquired? Although CYREN Command Anti-Malware is available.

Well, when I tried it a year ago there was HIPS available in the free version.

Are you sure? I saw that you can upgrade to the paid version by entering license in the free version and in the free version GUI few options are reserved for paid versions. I thought that those options only get enabled in the paid version and no further features.

@roger_m Good to know that they are working on it.... I liked their HIPS before I started using Comodo.

@sg09 Yes, my experience with HIPS when it was first introduced into Spyware Terminator many years ago was that it seemed very good.

No. In a March 2015 email inquiring about the absent HIPS in free and paid (3.0.0.101 at the time), their support: "because of rebuilding Spyware Terminator shield service we have decided to remove HIPS feature at all"

I agree it was very good. One can still find 3.0.0.82 out there and it's 64-bit OK.

Just finished a quick test (again) and can confirm that there was just one little peep out of it(surprisingly:eek:) with regard to the launching of some bad stuff on the system. In fact the "Launch Real-Time Shield Now" is greyed out in the free version.

I still run the V2 version on a couple of XP rigs as it`s a very solid stand alone HIPS but there`s nothing much in the latest "free" version.imo

    Regards Eck:)
