https://www.av-test.org/en/news/new...rity-suites-put-to-the-test-under-windows-81/ Yikes! Eset is dropping like a rock of late.
Isn't ESET's results in this months AV-Test more or less the same as the previous months ? Unless I miss something, this month doesn't look much different to me anyway.
In Feb. and June 2015 tests, Eset was ranked in Category 6. In this recent test, they have dropped to Category 8.
Here is test with different results: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...ome-antivirus-protection-apr-jun-2015.379684/ Which one should we trust? IMO, none.
If it runs well on your system and you aren't getting infected, then who cares about tests. Most of us here can run without any security software anyway and not get any infection.
Dennis Lab tests are somewhat of a joke in my opinion. They used only 100 samples Anti-virus is important (but not a panacea) This test shows that with even a relatively small sample set of 100 threats there is a significant difference in performance between the anti-virus programs. Most importantly, it illustrates this difference using real threats that attacked real computers at the time of testing.
I'm sure we prefer testing against thousands of random malware where 90% may never see the light of day, compared to 100 relevant samples that affects at least someone in the world daily...
New article for old news. The results are based in AV-Test.org: June 2015 test on Windows 8.1 https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/windows-8/june-2015/ .
You are correct. This news release simply "amends" the May/June 2015 test results. I have attached the May/June test results AV-Test.org posted on 27 July 2015. As far as I can tell, the only difference is that today ZoneAlarm has been added to the test results. All other products have been awarded exactly the same scores for protection, performance and usability.
I looked around on the website but don't find anything where they rank products in categories, I just see the usual points system where 6 points is the most they can get. Could you post a link or explain what/how you mean ? Also, ESET always get terrible performance results in the tests made by AV-Test and afaik that affect the overall score.
It is the leftmost column on the below screenshot. It relates to the total points awarded by AV-Test. For example Avira, Kapersky, and BitDefender all scored 18 points; the maximum available. They are all awarded the highest group ranking of no. 1. Group ranking is usefully in determining the relative change in a grouping of an entity over time. Like others have mentioned, Eset's base scores in the recent AV-Test tests have remained for the most part the same. However Eset dropped in relative ranking over the same time period which indicates the other products test results have improved. -EDIT- I will also note that with a protection score of 5.0, Eset was the third lowest scoring product excluding Microsoft in that category.
Will also agree that AV lab tests do vary; sometimes dramatically. In this WIN 8 comparative done by VB100, Kapersky did quite poorly: https://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/latest_comparative/index
You say that Eset is "dropping like a rock" compared to the June 2015 results while Eset today has exactly the same scores that it had in June 2015. You are misinterpreting the "recent test" results. Eset's scores today are exactly the same that they were in June 2015. After all, the "recent test" results are just a reiteration of the June test results. Eset's scores only appear to have dropped relative to other products because AV-Test has added ZoneAlarm to the list. For example, Eset would have remained in "Category 7" if ZoneAlarm had scored slightly better (placing it in "Category 3" with BullGuard, F-Secure, eScan and Panda). Eset would also have remained in "Category 7" if ZoneAlarm had scored slightly worse (placing it in "Category 4" with Avast, AVG, G-Data and K7).
Great scored again from Bit, I've had this vendor for two years now outstanding product its been for me.
What Eset needs to work on is its behavior blocker i.e. advanced heuristics, DNA, smart signatures as noted in the last test A-V Comparatives did for behavior blockers in 3/2015. I have posted those results below which are for Smart Security ver. 8.
