Not aiming to bad-mouth anything, but the piece is overly basic and reaches conclusions without explaining why it did so.

 

Is Bitdefender Antivirus Free Edition compatible with Windows 10 ?

 

Nope BD free is not compatible yet with Win 10 ......

 

Some claim that it works ok for them on 10, but others have cited problems. Also heard some vague talk that the BD people might update it for 10..

 

I would love to use a free AV, but the problem is that I don't trust AV's anymore. They are too intrusive and most of the time too heavy on the system.

 

I don't rate Panda Free or Avast! Free as particularly heavy on the system, neither is MSE for that matter. I'm referring to Windows systems I've actually used though, which doesn't include Win 10.

Avast! Free can be installed with a custom option where you can literally check off the bloatware and not install it. Panda has some similar options, such as giving you the option of installing the URL filter or not.

I think that this is a bit subjective. It's just an opinion.

 

Like I said, a lot of these AV's also "collect data" on systems, and I may have a different definition of the word "heavy". I'm very picky when it comes to this, I hate even minor slowdowns. Also, I'm only interested in on demand scanning, with some you can't even turn off real-time scanning.

 

Before I updated to windows 10 I used Avira free, I hear Avira is good for windows 10 but I haven't try yet. Right now I am using windows defender.

 

Avira free is much more lite & better detection than windows defender.

 

Agreed. Avira free is the best free option for AV on Windows.

 

I was thinking of trying Avira Free, although you can turn off real time scanning with Avast! if you don't select File Shield with a custom install. I'm back with MSE anyway.
