This is wrong, RK is NOT installed in background without user's consent. There is an opt-in "i agree" prioir to installation.

Btw "No RK" and "Lite" installer fo NOT contain RK at all.

I really can't understand why people put stuff like that in software. It nearly always diminishes it.

I installed the lite version, but my firewall blocked it from connecting to 213.186.33.69, which seems to be one of ovh's cdn. Any idea?

That's the automatic download of "dynamic links" (in order to send "get more RAM" to something wiser than the default link target)

This software contains something else apart from the program. ' Regular installer. May contain sponsors like Relevant Knowledge.'
I don't know why it is appearing on a security forum. Although it is, 'opt in', it contains 'Relevant Knowledge' (and maybe others) (which is regarded as a spyware/trojan) used in market research etc.
    Some info here
    here

RK is an optionnal sponsor that can be declined during installation (and which is not opted-in by default) as described on our download page : http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?download

The Lite/Portable installers do NOT contain any sponsor, both being available on our download page : http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?download

    Thanks !

@sdmod I don't see it as being an issue considering that RK will not be installed unless you manually select it.

I personally don't like spyware, adware or sneakware. full stop. Many people are not educated or experienced enough in the dangers and problems that these sort of programs can cause when installed to your system to make an educated choice. I have sat and watched lots of people, over the years installing software and even some of those that I thought would know better, have allowed stuff through.
I think when you install new software, that there is an element of excitement to get it onto the pc that turns people a bit security blind.
These sorts of spywares that are piggybacked into software are the pits. The software should make it's own money if it is good enough. If I'd paid for a piece of software and then I found out that in my excitement or lack of understanding, I'd inadvertantly installed it's included spyware which made all sorts of connections that I wasn't fully aware of and insinuated itself deeply into my system watching my every move including private and personal transactions etc, I'd be flaming mad.
This is a security forum and I'm amazed that I find apologists and propagators of this type of junk meeting so little resistance.
I'm all for cleanware. I don't like software that secretly calls home, profiles, comes loaded with spyware/sneakware/parasiteware or disguised/misdescribed trojans.
I think any sort of call home button should default on installation to 'off'.
When I install software, I personally always turn anything like that off and if it insists on running me, rather than me running it and insists on having things it's own way to my detriment...I'll dump it, no matter how cute it looks.

@sdmod While I also don't like bundled software, in this case it isn't a concern for me as the 3rd party software only gets installed if you manually select to install it.

@sdmod :thumb: What people need to see is excess-baggage-ware is the camels nose in the door.

@Reality Yes. and when that camel gets it's nose through your door and it's body follows, it takes ownership of that space and is hard to shift. Also other camels that are viewing the proceedings will think that it's ok for them to do the same. Keep those camels out! It's the thin end of a potentially enormously intrusive and all encompassing wedge
Of course, this is a very serious matter about our rights to privacy and personal security being eroded and what we are, how we define ourselves and want others to define us, as human beings
I believe that any attempt by corporate and other bodies to try and reconfigure our rights (by stealth, trickery, bullying and any other underhand means to suit their own needs and agenda) should be challenged at every level.
I often hear people say, 'It's only an advert' or 'Why would they want to know anything about little ol' me'
This issue, is about the world that we want to live in and leave for our children to live in.
Spy-ware/erosion-of-rights-security-and-privacy-ware dressed up or sitting beside utility or whim-ware/cute-ware waiting for us to click the wrong box is not acceptable. It's insulting to anyone of intelligence. The premise of this sort of software distribution and rights/security/privacy erosion is that 'they wont know or care and even if some of them do care we will have enough momentum from the naive/blind/stupid/distracted ones to institute new norms to our advantage' That's my opinion anyway.

@sdmod, this might sound arrogant, but it's not meant that way. The fact is I don't have opinions about this. All I see is facts. The fact is it is slippery to try and take advantage in an opportunistic way. Those who use bundle-ware as you (so aptly) describe, are supporting those who hope you will install their spyware, and they couldn't care less how you do it. It is a step in the WRONG DIRECTION to sneak this stuff in even when it defaults to off. The point is they HOPE you will inadvertently click on it and install it. Another fact is people have become easy meat because they trade their privacy and security for bells, whistles and the latest "me" gadgets. People in such a state as this are ripe for the picking, and sadly that's happening on an ever increasing scale. I also hear you about the momentum factor.

Then use "Lite" installer with NO sponsor being proposed if you fear to click on the wrong selection by mistake....
